The invention relates to a radiator for connection to hot water central heating systems, consisting of preferably vertically arranged individual elements which are assembled to form element blocks in the form of radiators.
Such tubular radiators are known. Each radiator section consists of an upper and lower head piece made of sheet steel, which are identical and are arranged so that the pipe attachments of the upper head piece point downwards, while the pipe attachments of the lower head piece point upwards. Straight pipe sections are welded between the pipe attachments of the upper and lower head pieces. Each head piece can have pipe attachments for two, three, four, five or six steel pipes arranged one behind the other. The head pieces mentioned usually consist of two identical, vertically divided and mirror-image half shells. The half shells are connected to one another using a flash butt welding process. The pipes are welded to the pipe attachments of the head pieces using the same welding process. Each head piece has a circular opening on each side, preferably with a bead, which enables the water-side connection between the individual links when producing a link block. The links are connected to one another, for example, by built-in right-left threads with internal nipples or by electric spot welding from the inside of the opening. When producing the well-known tubular radiator links, when the two halves of the head piece are connected and when the head pieces are connected to the preferably vertically arranged pipes on the inside and outside of the workpieces, as a result of the flash-butt welding, residue protrusions arise on all weld seams, which are no longer accessible on the inside of the radiator links on the water side and remain there, and must be mechanically removed on the outside of the radiator links using complicated and expensive processes and compensated as best as possible by regrinding. This mechanically complex post-processing of the weld seams can result in unsightly transition points between the two headpiece halves and at the connection points of the headpieces to the pipes and, as a result of grinding, almost inevitably in a local reduction in the material thickness.
The invention is based on the object of avoiding reworking of the welded joints on the head pieces and pipes and thus making production significantly simpler and therefore more cost-effective.
The object is achieved according to the invention by reducing the height of the head pieces. In addition, the head pieces are not formed from vertically divided half shells as previously known, but from an upper and lower horizontally separated part. The head pieces according to the invention consist of a head piece upper part and a head piece lower part.
The top of the headpiece, which is closed at the top, has a half connecting pipe socket in the middle on both sides. The bottom of the headpiece has the other half of this pipe socket in the middle on both sides and is also provided with openings on its underside, which preferably correspond to the cross-section of the pipes to be welded there.
The tubular heating element element according to the invention is manufactured by first bringing the open ends of the tubes, which are preferably cut at right angles, to the openings of the head piece lower part and welding them to this from the inside of the head piece lower part in a pressure-tight manner, preferably using a modern residue-free welding process in which no welding or other residues are created or left on the outside of the workpiece and thus no rework is required.
In this way, according to the invention, the pipes are welded to the headpiece lower parts at their two open ends. After that, a headpiece upper part as described above is welded to each of the headpiece lower parts already connected to the welded pipes in a pressure-tight manner by means of a circumferential weld seam, which also includes the previously described connection opening, using a modern welding method which, apart from a smooth weld seam that does not require any rework, leaves no disturbing residues.
According to the invention, the cross-sectional shape of the pipes to be arranged between the head pieces can be circular, square, in the shape of a D or in another way. The preferably circular openings arranged on the head pieces for connecting the individual links to one another on the water side are to be designed in such a way that the connection is made by a modern welding process, for example by a residue-free circular weld seam to be carried out from the outside, or by residue-free pressure welding with or without corresponding connecting rings or pieces, or by an overlap circular seam welding process.
Using a similar procedure, the water-side openings of the end links can be closed with connecting or blind pieces.
It is also possible to equip the openings of individual links with, for example, welded-in threaded parts, which serve to connect to the following link or to close the openings.
The invention requires a high level of precision and dimensional accuracy of the head pieces and pipes formed from sheet steel in order to enable the use of a preferably robot-guided, modern welding process.

In the construction according to the invention, the material wall thickness can be chosen to be smaller than in the known constructions because no material is consumed on the workpiece for the welded joint and because the wall thickness is not reduced due to the elimination of post-processing of the welded joints. This leads to weight and cost reductions in the construction according to the invention with the same mechanical rigidity and pressure resistance.
A smaller wall thickness is also possible with the design according to the invention because the flat surfaces of the head pieces are smaller than in designs known on the market. This results in the same pressure resistance even with a smaller wall thickness of the material used to manufacture the head pieces.
The invention also has the advantage that there are no elevations or depressions on the top or bottom of the radiator in which air or water residues can be found. The radiator can be completely vented and emptied. There are no welded joints, welding residues or sheet metal gaps on either the top or bottom headpiece, so that no corrosion residues or dirt particles from the system can collect there.
Further details, features and advantages of the subject matter of the invention will become apparent from the following description of the accompanying drawings, in which the embodiment of the construction is shown schematically.
