Description
The invention relates to a fire protection laminate which foams at higher temperatures and thus provides protection against the effects of fire. Flame protection layers using fibers soaked in alkali silicate are known. For example, DE-AS 1169832 describes a process for producing thermally insulating flame protection layers in which inorganic and/or synthetic organic fibers or fabrics made from them are provided with a layer of an alkali silicate solution. These layers are solidified by drying. Such layers are given a coating of water-insoluble material to protect them against the harmful effects of water.
Fire protection laminates of this type no longer meet the requirements placed on them. For example, they lose the ability to foam up in the event of a fire under the influence of carbon dioxide. The task was therefore to improve fire protection laminates of the type described so that they remain stable against the influence of water and carbon dioxide over longer periods of time and thus retain their protective function. This is particularly true in cases where subsequent access to the fire protection laminates is no longer possible after they have been installed.
In addition, the fire protection laminates should only contain ecologically harmless materials and should not develop any toxic substances in the event of a fire. Questionable materials, such as plastic films containing chlorine, should be excluded from their production.
Finally, the new fire protection laminates should be manufactured as simply as possible, with changes to the materials used, especially the composite films, having as little impact on the manufacturing process as possible.
Zur Lösung dieser Aufgabe werden Brandschutzlaminate entsprechend Anspruch vorgeschlagen. Bevorzugte Laminate sind in den Unteransprüchen beschrieben. To solve this problem, fire protection laminates according to claim are proposed. Preferred laminates are described in the subclaims.
The central layer of the fire protection laminate according to the invention is a fire protection layer treated with a sodium silicate solution. It is produced in a generally known manner, e.g. according to the process of DE-AS 11 832. A mat made of glass fiber, rock wool or the like is treated with a sodium silicate solution and most of the water is removed at an elevated temperature without the mat to be dried swelling. The water must not be completely removed because it acts as a blowing agent.
In the simplest case, ordinary water glass can be used as a sodium silicate solution. Additives such as silicon dioxide, talcum, titanium dioxide, etc. or wetting agents, as also described in DE-AS 11 69 832, result in improved products. The finished fire protection layer has a thickness of between 1.6 and 4.0 mm, preferably between 1.6 and 2.4 mm.
Bei den Aluminiumfolien verwendet man solche mit einer Dicke von 9 bis 20 &mgr;&eegr;&igr;, insbesondere von 12 &mgr;&pgr;&igr;.The films used can be made of any polymeric material. Preference is given to polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, polyester or an ionomer. The aluminum foils used are those with a thickness of 9 to 20 μηι, especially 12 μηι.

Any type of paper can be used as paper layers. Soda kraft paper with a minimum weight of 20 g/m² has proven to be particularly advantageous. Instead of paper, a glass fiber fabric can also be used which, unlike the fiber mat already described, is not impregnated with silicate in the laminate. It can have different structures and has a basis weight of 30 to 50 g/m².
In addition to the layer of paper or glass fibre fabric, layers of felt, fabric, rock wool or hard fibre can also be used.
To simplify the production of fire protection laminates, the films or layers made of untreated glass fiber fabric, paper, fabric or felt are used in a composite form, as they are also commercially available. The structure of the composite films can vary. In the simplest case, a plastic film is laminated together with a paper layer. Higher demands are met by a composite film in which an aluminum foil is glued between two plastic films and the plastic films are coated on the outer surfaces with a paper layer, the glass fiber fabric, a layer of fabric, felt and/or rock wool or hard fiber.
The composite film is bonded to the fire protection layer using a sodium silicate solution. The same sodium silicate solution can be used here as that used to make the fire protection layer. Instead of sodium silicate, the bonding can also be done using an organic adhesive. Epoxy resin adhesives and those made from polyester have proven to be very effective. Such plastic adhesives have additional insulating properties compared to the fire protection layer, so that the aluminum foil cannot be attacked by the sodium silicate, even if the otherwise protective plastic film is missing.
If the front surfaces of the fire protection laminates are exposed, the fiber mat impregnated with sodium silicate can be attacked by water and carbon dioxide from this open side. To counteract this undesirable attack, fire protection laminates are used whose front surfaces are welded or glued by the composite film.
Figures 1 to 10 show some examples of the fire protection laminates according to the invention.
In Figure 1, the fiber mat A coated with a sodium silicate is initially surrounded on both sides by a paper layer B. This is then followed by a polyethylene film C on both sides. Then there is an aluminum film D on both sides, which in turn is covered by another polyethylene film C. The composite film here therefore consists of layers B, G, D and C, i.e. a paper layer, a plastic film, an aluminum film and again a plastic film.
The composite films in Figure 2 have an additional paper layer B 1 on the outer surfaces.
Figures 3 and 4 show fire protection laminates that are similar to the laminates in Figures 2 and 3. Instead of the paper layer B in the composite film in Figures 1 and 2, an untreated glass fiber fabric E is used here, so that the layer sequence in the composite film here is E,C,D,C or B,C,D,C,B 1. Instead of the glass fiber fabric E, a layer of mushroom, fabric, hard fiber or rock wool can be used here.
Further examples are shown in Figures 5 and 6. The special feature of these laminates is that the composite films protrude beyond the fiber mat A impregnated with sodium silicate. In this laminate construction, the protruding composite films can be welded or glued together in order to protect the fire protection laminates even better against moisture and carbon dioxide.
If the fire protection laminates according to the invention are used in cavities that offer sufficient protection against water and carbon dioxide, simpler laminates can be used, as shown in Figure 7. They consist only of the fiber mat A soaked in sodium silicate and a composite film made of paper B and plastic film C. For better durability, such laminates should be stored and transported in waterproof films that also provide protection against carbon dioxide. A composite film made of aluminum coated on both sides with a plastic such as polyethylene or polyester is recommended as the film material.
Figures 8 to 10 show schematic representations of fire protection laminates, whose fire protection layer A is bonded on both sides to a composite foil using an organic adhesive F. Due to the insulating properties of the adhesive layer, the use of aluminum foil was omitted in Figure 9.
The fire protection laminates can also have a self-adhesive layer on one or both sides, which is covered by a plastic film. When using such fire protection laminates, this plastic film is removed and the laminate is glued to the surface to be protected.
The fire protection laminates usually have a thickness of 1.6 to 4.0 mm, preferably 1.6 to 2.4 mm. Because of their low thickness, they are flexible between 20 and 40 ° C and therefore easy to handle. Their weight per unit area is preferably 3 to 3.5 kg/m² and 6 kg/m² for a thickness of 4 mm.
Above 40 ° C, the fire protection laminate becomes plastic and begins to foam at around 100 ° C, creating a non-flammable, fine-pored, heat-insulating and pressure-stable foam layer of around 15 to 30 mm.
This foam layer makes it necessary to place the fire protection laminates between two components in such a way that there is still enough space for the foam volume that may arise, especially since the resulting expansion pressure can reach values of 1.5 N/mm2.
The thermal conductivity of the non-foamed panel is approximately 0.8 W/mK, while in the foamed state it is 0.06 W/mK.
These properties give the fire protection panel according to the invention a fire resistance period of more than 30 minutes in accordance with DIN 4102, without the high temperatures giving rise to ecologically harmful or health-damaging fumes.
