Description
The invention relates to a green roof system for covering and planting flat roofs with no or little slope, with a root-resistant roof seal and/or a root protection film, as well as at least one plantable protective covering.
In the old federal states of the Federal Republic of Germany, flat roofs cover a total area of around 100,000 hectares. These unused areas can be made visually and ecologically sensible by planting greenery; in addition, the urban climate can be improved by planting green flat roofs, in particular through their ability to temporarily store precipitation.
Such green roof systems have been known for a long time, as can be seen, for example, in the "Guidelines for the planning, implementation and maintenance of green roofs", published by the Research Society for Landscape Development-Landscape Construction e.V. at Köllen Druck + Verlag GmbH, Bonn, 1990.
According to conventional methods, a vegetation substrate that stores water as optimally as possible and is divided into a drainage layer and a vegetation layer is applied to the root protection film, in which various plants are planted depending on taste and the level of care required. A distinction is made between extensive and intensive green roofs, which accordingly require more or less complex, regular care:
Depending on the planting, a certain moisture content of the plantable protective covering must not be undercut, the planting must be regularly cleared of plants that have flown in or been introduced, and individual plants may need to be regularly trimmed.
In addition, larger plants, such as woody plants, pose a risk to the roof waterproofing; furthermore , heavy, intensive or extensive green roofs, which significantly increase the static roof load, represent an accumulation of combustible biomass according to the state of the art, which may make preventive fire protection measures necessary.
Based on this state of the art, the invention is therefore based on the task of creating a green roof system for covering and planting flat roofs, which, apart from the usual roof maintenance work, does not require any further care in areas with a subcontinental or continental climate.
Diese Aufgabe wird erfindungsgemäß durch einen einschichtigen bepflanzbaren Schutzbelag gelöst, der im wesentlichen aus anorganischenThis object is achieved according to the invention by a single-layer plantable protective covering, which consists essentially of inorganic
Partikeln besteht und eine Wasserretentionsfähigkeit unterhalb von 10 Gew.-/^ aufweist.particles and has a water retention capacity below 10 wt./^.
Die Verwendung eines einschichtigen, bepflanzbaren Schutzbelags mit der erfindungsgemäßen, niedrigen Wasserretentionsfähigkeit hat in Gebieten mit subkontinentalem oder kontinentalem Klima ein mehrmaiiaesThe use of a single-layer, plantable protective covering with the low water retention capacity according to the invention has a multi- fold
The result is that the entire structure dries out within one growing season. Due to this repeated drying out, only specialized plant species can survive on the plantable protective surface. Plants that are not suitable for the site and have been introduced or spread by seed dispersal die without human intervention due to the extreme ecological conditions of the site; adapted plant species, on the other hand, spread. The plant community that develops from the initial planting is therefore self-sustaining and maintenance-free.
Another advantage is the low weight of a single-layer plantable protective covering, as well as the easy manufacture and the advantageously low use of materials, with no need for the conventionally necessary plastics in the drainage, water storage and vegetation layers.
Preferably, the water retention capacity of the single-layer plantable protective covering according to the invention is below 8% by weight. This ensures that the entire structure dries out several times, even in relatively humid areas.
It is advisable for the proportion of organic components of the plantable protective covering to be a maximum of 20 % of the total volume. On the one hand, this makes it easier for plants adapted to the location to survive, and on the other hand, the risk of fire is extremely low due to the low proportion of organic matter.
The plantable protective covering can consist of various types of rock with a grain size of approx. 8 to 30 mm, such as gravel, and can be mixed with organic components if necessary. Such a protective covering is frost-proof, easily available and simple to produce. The grain size of over approx. 8 mm ensures that the plantable protective covering is not washed away and can take over the drainage function required on a roof.
It is particularly advantageous if the protective covering for planting consists of crushed rubble with a grain size of approx. 8 to 30 mm. The zero portion of the crushed rubble, i.e. all particles with a grain size of less than 1 mm, must be removed, otherwise the drainage function will be impaired. By using this recycled material, less landfill volume is required and interference with nature and the landscape through mining measures to extract substrate is avoided.
The plantable protective surface can also consist essentially of a mixture of different types of bedrock and crushed construction rubble.
Durch die hohe Wasserdurchlässigkeit des schützenden /lieses ist gewährleistet, daß das Vlies selbst kein WasserIt is advantageous to arrange a protective fleece between the root protection film and the plantable protective covering: This fleece serves as mechanical protection against damage to the root protection film, especially when using a plantable protective covering whose grains are pointed and when walking on the green roof. The high water permeability of the protective fleece ensures that the fleece itself does not absorb any water.
zurückhält, was das Durchtrocknen des bepflanzbaren Schutzbelags beeinträchtigen würde.which would impair the drying of the plantable protective covering.
This protective fleece is preferably a synthetic fleece with a weight of more than 250 g/m 2 per unit area. This provides optimum protection without affecting the drying of the plantable protective covering. Furthermore, the roots of the plants planted in the plantable protective covering anchor themselves in the protective fleece; the finest particles of the plantable protective covering, if present, are washed into the fleece and retained there.
Abhängig von der Materialzusammensetzung wiegt jeder Zentimeter Schutzbelagshöhe ca. 12 bis 19 kg/m2.In a green roof system according to the invention, the height of the protective covering for planting is preferably about 2 to 7 cm. As a result, the static roof load of the green roof system according to the invention is not higher than the load from a conventional gravel covering. Depending on the material composition, each centimeter of protective covering weighs about 12 to 19 kg/m 2 .
The green roof system according to the invention can be particularly beneficial when planted with plants from the Crassulaceae, Iridaceae, Liliaceae, Saxifragaceae families, with mosses or winter annuals, as well as other plants adapted to the location. In particular, plants from the genera "Jovibarba", "Sedum", "Saxifraga", "Sempervivum", "Iris" or "Allium" can be used. With these plants, just a few specimens are enough for initial greening. Furthermore, these plants can provide a home for many animal species, such as bees, spiders, ladybirds and other invertebrates. Human intervention in this self-regulating system is unnecessary.
An embodiment of the invention is described in more detail below with reference to the drawing.
The green roof system 1 shown in Figure 1 is installed on a flat roof 2 with a roof sealing 3 that is already present on site and is resistant to weak-rooted plants. In addition, the root protection sheet 4 protects the flat roof 2 against damage caused by plant roots and against damage when the plantable protective covering 6 is applied. To mechanically protect the root protection sheet 4 against the plantable protective covering δ, in particular when walking on it, another protective plastic sheet 7 is placed on the root protection sheet. The plantable protective covering δ consists of ground quality building rubble, mixed with around 10 % of sandy, humus-rich topsoil and has a filling height of around 5 cm.
In den bepflanzbaren Schutzbelag 6 wurden insbesondere folgende Pflanzenarten eingesetzt:The following plant species were used in particular in the plantable protective covering 6:

The present invention therefore represents a maintenance-free

subcontinental or continental climate, an almost evergreen, flowering and absolutely maintenance-free plant cover can be achieved, which in particular does not need to be mowed, weeded or watered. Since even in
Since hardly any combustible biomass is produced during dry periods, this form of roof planting can be considered a "hard covering" and is therefore not subject to approval; the static roof load of the green roof system according to the invention is not higher than the load from a conventional gravel protection surface. In addition, it offers many animals, especially pollinating insects, additional living space; the quality of life in urban settlements is thus improved, in
In conjunction with a proven ecological benefit, the use of recycled materials, as further proposed in the invention,
Landfill volume is saved and interventions in nature and landscape through mining measures are reduced to
Substrate recovery is avoided. These advantages are associated with a simple production of the inventive
