Es ist deshalb bekannt, daß Material halbfest und in haftender bzw. stiftförmiger Form (z.B. als Lippenstift, Bühnen-Make up) aufzutragen bzw. anzuwenden oder mehr flüssige Materialien mittels eines Applikators bzw. einer Einlage bzw. eines Pads oder ähnlichem oder einer Bürste zu applizieren. Im Fall stark flüssiger Materialien, kann ein imprägniertes Pad verwendet werden, das "feucht" bzw. 1. An applicator for flowable material to the skin of a user, comprising a back plate and a pad of porous or permeable material, the back plate being adapted to hold the pad thereon or the pad being held thereon, the back plate being adapted to be held by hand or to be held on a device adapted to exert mechanical movement on the back plate.

2. Applicator according to claim 1, in which the edges of the back plate are movable relative to its center between two stable positions, in one of these positions the pad boundary is freely insertable between cooperating portions of the back plate, and in the other of the positions the pad boundary is clamped between the cooperating portions.

3. An applicator according to claim 1, wherein an annular clamp is adapted to grip the perimeter of the back plate in a releasable manner and to clamp the pad perimeter between it and the back plate.

4. An applicator according to claim 1, in which the pad is adapted to be secured to the back plate by means of a central retainer adapted to clamp an inner ring of the pad between itself and the back plate.

5. An applicator according to any preceding claim, in which the back plate is curved when in its working position with the pad being secured therein.

6. An applicator according to any preceding claim, wherein the back plate has means extending therefrom for securing

the back plate protrudes from a movable part of a *haiädable device for generating a mechanical movement.

7. An applicator according to claim 6, which is in position on a device for exerting a rotational and/or vibratory movement on the back plate.
