PATENTSCHRIFTPATENT LETTERING
KLASSE 12: Chemische Verfahren und Apparate.CLASS 12: Chemical processes and apparatus.
Verfahren zur Verhütung der Polymerisation von Formaldehyd.Process for preventing the polymerization of formaldehyde.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 21. Mai 1896 ab.Patented in the German Empire on May 21, 1896.
It is known that gaseous formaldehyde is an excellent disinfectant and is already widely used for disinfection purposes. Practical application however, until now there has always been a hindrance which the purpose of the present invention is to avoid.
The commercially available aqueous formaldehyde solution, which is heated in suitable apparatus, is used to prepare the gaseous formaldehyde. With this process it is impossible to avoid partial polymerisation of the formaldehyde, a circumstance which can easily be demonstrated by the polymerisation products paraformaldehyde (CH 2 O) 2 or trioxymethylene (CH 2 OJ 3 which are formed during heating and which are unusable for disinfection purposes). fst. In this way it is always to be feared that the disinfection is not carried out sufficiently practically and not energetically enough.
The inventor has found that this polymerization can easily be carried out by a very simple one Avoid means entirely. To this one Purpose one proceeds accordingly according to the present invention as follows:
Approx. 15 to 30 g of an alkaline earth chloride are dissolved in 1 liter of the commercially available formaldehyde solution respectively Alkalis (calcium chloride, sodium chloride or potassium chloride) and uses them Solution in exactly the same way as ordinary commercial formaldehyde the aforementioned disinfection purposes.
This simple process, which completely prevents the polymerisation of formaldehyde, allows a complete and extremely effective use of formaldehyde for disinfection purposes.
