Cushions, especially seat or back cushions

The invention relates to the construction of a cushion, in particular seat or back cushions for upholstered furniture, but also for example for a mattress, whereby the cushions have a filling mixture. A wide variety of filling materials are already known for filling cushions. For example, down, half-down, feathers or even foam flakes are used, which are filled into the cushions either individually or in combined mixing ratios. The different fillings are intended to improve the cushions, particularly in terms of their elasticity and seating comfort. However, it is disadvantageous that these cushions are generally not suitable for higher loads, since clumping occurs again and again inside and thus different filling densities. The result after more or less long use is the formation of so-called seat hollows, which cannot be removed even by shaking. In DE-PS 34 13 268 it was already proposed to add plate-shaped foam pieces to the filling mixture in order to improve the conformability and the ability to stand up again, which is particularly important for shaking. However, the necessary shaking cannot be dispensed with here either.

The invention is based on the task of developing a cushion of the generic type that provides good support for the

seated person and that remains elastic even after prolonged use and returns to its original shape after the load is removed.

According to the invention, the object is achieved in that individual webs are arranged at right angles and parallel to one another within the cushion in such a way that a central chamber is formed into which, in addition to known filling materials, spherical elastic bodies are inserted. These bodies preferably consist of polyether foam, cold foam or latex with a density between 20 and 100.
It has surprisingly been shown that the pores of the foam balls absorb spring particles from the materials also present in the filling mixture and thus surround themselves with a natural silicone coating. The foam balls coated in this way develop their own dynamics, remaining downy soft when the pressure is alternately applied and released, but always returning to their original height after the pressure is released. In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the diameter of the foam balls is approximately the same as the height of the side base of the cushion.

The invention also provides that the foam balls are placed loosely and spaced apart from one another in the central chamber. Further inventive features can be found in the subclaims.

In the cushion 1 shown in Fig. 1, the foam balls 3 can be seen, which are arranged loosely next to one another and are located inside the central chamber 2 formed by the webs 5. The space between the foam balls and outside the central chamber is filled with known filling materials, such as half-down, feathers and foam pieces, shown schematically here.

Fig. 2 clearly shows that the diameter of the foam balls 3 corresponds approximately to the side base height 4, whereby the cushion in the example shown is somewhat spherical.

From Fig. 3 it can be seen how the foam balls 3 are surrounded by other filling materials that are much smaller in size, for example springs 7 and foam plates 8.
