Im Möbel- und Innenausbau erfreuen sich Schichtstoffplatten mit einer hochglänzenden Oberfläche an der Sichtseite zunehmender Beliebtheit. Während die Verwendung solcher Platten für die vertikalen Bereiche, wie die Möbelfronten, hinsichtlich Beeinträchtigungen durch auftretende Beanspruchungen problemlos sind, bringt der Einsatz dieser Platten in horizontalen Bereichen, die vornehmlich als Abstellflachen genutzt werden, den Nachteil mit sich, daß die zunächst hochglänzende Oberfläche durch Kratzer unansehnlich wird. Beispielsweise haben in der Regel Geschirrteile aus Prozellan oder Steingut an der Unterseite rauhe Aufstandsflächen, die zudem noch aus einem harten Material bestehen, die leicht Schleifspuren auf einer Hochglanzfläche hinterlassen können.

Dabei wird davon ausgegangen, daß eine linien- oder punktförmige Erhebung immer eine endliche Oberseite hat, also nicht im streng geometrischen Sinne zu verstehen ist, wobei eine punktförmige Erhebung eine Oberseite in Gesalt einer Kreisfläche hat und eine linienförmige Erhebung eine längliche Rippe mit einer schmalen Oberseite darstellt.
