Der erfindungsgemäße Schmuckreif enthält ein Scherengitter, dessen Glieder zum Innern des Reifs hin gekrümmt sind, wodurch die Aneinanderreihung der Glieder des Scherengitters zu einem entsprechend gekrümmten Gebilde führt, welches sich zu einem Reif formen läßt. Dabei sind die Glieder des Scherengitters unter gegenseitigem Andruck durch Niete miteinander gelenkig verbunden. Der gegenseitige Andruck stellt sicher, dass in den Gelenken genügend Reibung auftritt, um das Scherengitter in jedem möglichen Dehnungszustand verharren zu lassen, so dass das Scherengitter seine Länge beim Tragen des Reifs nicht unwillkürlich ändert. Darin liegt ein wesentlicher Vorteil gegenüber einem Reif, dem durch Federglieder eine Dehnbarkeit verliehen wird, denn ein federnd dehnbarer Reif zieht sich unter Wirkung der Federkraft immer bis auf ein Minimum zusammen, während ein Ring mit dem erfindungsgemäßen Scherengitter im Rahmen des Verstellbereichs des Scherengitters jede Umfangslänge stabil einnehmen kann. Dabei wird die Krümmung der Glieder vorzugsweise so gewählt, dass der Ring permanent unter Spannung steht. D.h., dass die Krümmung der Glieder entweder so groß gewählt wird, dass die Glieder des Scherengitters, wenn man sie ohne Vorspannung zu einem Ring zusammenfügt, einen Ring ergeben würden, dessen Durchmesser kleiner wäre als der Durchmesser des erfindungsgemäßen Reifs, oder dass man die Krümmung der Glieder des Scherengitters so klein wählt, dass ein aus ihnen zusammengebauter Ring, der keine Vorspannung enthält, einen Durchmesser hätte, der größer wäre als der größte Durchmesser des erfindungsgemäßen Reifs.
