Description
Process for the production of high pressure lubricants Addition to the patent &% 343 In the patent 898 343 high pressure lubricants, which consist of mixtures of chlorinated paraffins and fatty acid salts, are protected. According to the additional patent 904 232, the fatty acid salts are wholly or partially replaced by inorganic metal oxides or salts, such as carbonates or sulfates.
The invention relates to a particular method of production of high-pressure lubricants of the aforementioned type. The inventive method solves the problem of producing such high pressure lubricants in one particular simple and technically perfect way. For the production of high pressure lubricants, from ointment-like chlorinated paraffins using an additive of about io up to 20% of one or more fatty acid salts are basically the following Possibilities given First, the fatty acid salts can be used in a manner known per se first produced separately, crushed and then put into the chlorinated paraffin be incorporated through a suitable measure. Second, the fatty acids can Salts based on the production of consistent lubricating greases through conversion or Saponify the in melted chlorinated paraffin dissolved fatty acids or another soap former with an associated base in the chlorinated paraffin itself will.
The first-mentioned production method is technically flawed because the fine comminution of fatty acid salts, especially those that differ from higher molecular weight Derive from fatty acids and are soft, sometimes sticky, encounters great difficulties. A satisfactory fine distribution of the separately Fatty acid salts produced in chlorinated paraffin can only be achieved by the mixture consisting of chlorinated paraffin and the pre-crushed salts a ball mill interspersed. This operation is expensive in terms of equipment and also very time consuming.
The second of the manufacturing options mentioned also comes into play their practical exercise to an unexpectedly great difficulty. It was found namely, that by saponifying the fatty acids dissolved in chlorinated paraffins with Fatty acid salts formed from a base flocculate and agglomerate into lumps.
It has now been found that the flocculation or lump formation is seen the fatty acid salts can be avoided completely if the saponification of the chlorinated paraffins dissolved fatty acids in the presence of a finely divided, apparently adsorptive Substance, especially in the presence of precipitated calcium carbonate is carried out. In those made of melted chlorinated paraffin and fatty acids dissolved in it, or others Soap formers existing solution can be z. B. precipitated calcium carbonate Suspend stirring in without the carbonate reacting with the fatty acid. One adds a base is added to the suspension obtained; for example hydrated lime, magnesium oxide, Baryte, concentrated sodium hydroxide solution or the like, this is how a reaction takes place. The fatty acids are converted to the corresponding salts, which do not flocculate, but are in an extremely finely divided state in the chlorinated paraffin.
A closer examination of this surprising effect showed that very generally finely divided substances, such as the known adsorbents, in place can step from precipitated calcium carbonate. For example, it can be application find: animal charcoal, graphite, fuller's earth, kieselguhr, but also calcium sulfate, zinc carbonate etc .; Talc was found to be less effective. It is believed that the Effect on adsorptive binding of those formed by saponification in chlorinated paraffin fatty acid salts is based on the additives mentioned, which leads to flocculation or the salts are prevented from agglomerating into lumps. For the practice of lubricant production naturally have such adsorptive additives that the lubricating properties not affect, but support, a special interest. This is true to a large extent for precipitated calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate. Example 100 kg salve-like chlorinated paraffin are obtained from paraffin oxidation with 10 kg of fatty acid melted together. 15 kg of precipitated calcium carbonate are added to the melt or solution added. A uniform suspension is obtained by vigorous stirring. Man add about 2 kg of hydrated lime to the batch and more after the reaction has ended 100 kg of chlorinated paraffin and allowed to cool while stirring. Instead of trailing fatty acid other soap formers, for example waxes, wax fatty acids, paraffin oxidation products, as well as natural or synthetic fatty acids occur. Instead of hydrated lime other bases can be used, the amount of which is to be measured so that one Saponification of the fatty acids is effected.
