Thermal Sensitization Process. Patent 869,861 relates to use
water-soluble polyvinyl alkyl ether as a heat-sealing agent for aqueous
Dispersions of rubber, rubber-like or resinous substances natural
or of synthetic origin. The invention of said patent is based on
Realization that water-soluble polyvinyl alkyl ethers with an increase in temperature
suddenly become insoluble to a certain degree and that this property
exploited for the heat sensitization of aqueous dispersions of the type mentioned
can be. The coagulation temperature to be achieved by this process
Dispersions depend on various factors. So in many cases you can use the
Coagulation temperature by increasing the amount of water-soluble polyvinyl alkyl ethers
press down. The amount of polyvinyl alkyl ethers to be added is on the other hand
Limits. In addition, in many cases a limit value is reached
under which one: even with an increase in the amount of polyvinyl alkyl ethers, the coagulation temperature
can't push down. On the other hand, there is a need in many cases
for a simple means of lowering the coagulation temperature, there
generally the inner cohesion
of the coagulate still containing serum
with. decreasing coagulation temperature and it is an advantage in terms of application
is to get by with as little heat as possible.
According to the invention, the coagulation point of such aqueous dispersions.
of the type mentioned above with anionic dispersants, which with the help of water-soluble
Polyvinyl alkyl ethers have been heat-sensitized by adding water-soluble ones
Products of the action of ethylene oxide on water-insoluble higher paraffinic hydrocarbons
depressed with a reactive hydroxyl, carboxyl or amino group.
This effect is particularly surprising because the additives mentioned
in other combinations the opposite effect, namely as a stabilizing agent,
exercise. Reference is made in this regard to the patent 751 040, where the stabilizing
Effect of these additives in connection with strong coagulants for
a heat sensitization process is used.
hervorgeht, an solche Dispersionen gebunden, welche anionaktive Dispergiermittel
enthalten.
The rule is that with increasing amounts of such additives, the coagulation temperature drops, so that the desired low coagulation temperature of about 30 to 40 ° can be achieved without difficulty even in those cases in which one cannot increase the amount of water-soluble polyvinyl alkyl ethers progresses. Additives of the type mentioned are, for. B. the water-soluble, action products of ethylene oxide on oleyl alcohol or dodecvlamin. In general, small amounts of these additives are sufficient to produce an effect in the desired direction. As can be seen from the above statements, the achievement of this effect is bound to such dispersions which contain anionic dispersants. As a rule, such dispersants are contained in synthetic dispersions from E.mulsion polymerization. Such emulsifiers are, for example, alkylated aphthalenesulfonic acids, soaps or paraffin sulfonic acids.
