The invention relates to an automatic ironing machine for ironing outer clothing, having a feed arrangement for various materials, e.g. steam and air, with a stand for placing the item of clothing to be ironed on it and with lower ironing devices, with a waistband tensioning device being associated with the sleeves.

Ironing machines of the type shown are mainly used commercially for ironing outerwear. To do this, the item of clothing to be ironed is pulled onto a mannequin, clamped several times in the corresponding devices at the bottom and the sleeves are secured in a cuff clamping device. The medium required for the treatment is then blown from below into the space between the mannequin and the item of clothing for a predetermined period of time, which is determined by the material of the item of clothing. After this steam treatment, warm and/or cold air is generally blown into the space.

As with the known ironing machines, the sleeves are clamped to the waistband to tighten them, creases and folds inevitably occur in the waistband area, which then have to be removed by time-consuming manual ironing. In addition, when the arm is clamped, the risk of injury to the operator cannot be ruled out, although it must be taken into account that operating the ironing machine is a monotonous, tiring activity that is paid for according to the work performed.

Since the individual garments have different sleeve shapes and sizes, the cuff tensioning devices must be manually aligned in the vertical and horizontal positions in order to tighten the sleeves precisely. This alignment is time-consuming and must be carried out with extreme precision so that the settings for both sleeves are identical.

The garment to be ironed is pulled onto the manikin manually and is time-consuming, especially for longer and heavier garments such as coats. Since the garment is buttoned up and placed onto the manikin from above, this also requires a certain amount of physical effort.

The invention is based on the task of designing an ironing machine of the type described in such a way that

The cuff tensioning devices prevent creases or folds from occurring and it is guaranteed that both cuff tensioning devices are in the same working position without any additional expenditure of time. In addition, regardless of the size of the garment to be ironed, it should be easier to pull it onto the bust.

According to the invention, this object is achieved in that each cuff tensioning device has at least two tensioning elements that can be inserted into the sleeve of the item of clothing to be ironed, the distance between which can be changed and the bust is guided at an adjustable height. The tensioning elements are advantageously in the form of an elliptical cylinder, with each cuff tensioning device having a fixed and a movable or rotatable tensioning element. At the lower end of the fixed tensioning element, a cantilever arm can be arranged running at right angles, on which a movable tensioning element is guided. The movable or rotatable tensioning elements can expediently be controlled synchronously via a common switch.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the cuff tensioning devices are arranged so that they can be adjusted synchronously in the horizontal and vertical directions. The arrangement of the outlet openings of the media supply at the height of the hem clamping devices is particularly advantageous.

In an embodiment of the invention, the bust is arranged so that it can be replaced, whereby a cylinder is arranged to adjust the height of the bust, which can be operated separately via an associated switch. The stroke of the cylinder is expediently designed according to the size difference between jackets and coats.

The inventive design of the cuff tensioning devices not only guarantees convenient and quick, completely mirror-image tensioning of the two sleeves, but above all automatic ironing without the occurrence of additional creases or folds in the area of the tensioning elements. The possibility of changing the bust makes it possible to adapt to different sizes of the items of clothing to be ironed. The automatic height adjustment of the bust makes it easier to pull on longer items of clothing, such as coats. The bust can be moved to the appropriate height for convenient pulling on, which results in both significant physical relief for the operator and time savings for pulling on.

In order to be able to tension the sleeves of the garments to be ironed into the optimal position, the sleeve tensioning devices can be automatically and synchronously adjusted in the horizontal and vertical directions.

In order to be able to supply the medium required for ironing to the goods via the shortest route, the outlet openings of the media supply are arranged at the height of the hem clamping devices 4. Since the hem clamping devices 4 are known to be arranged at a variable height, it follows that the outlet openings of the media supply are also arranged at a variable height.

The appropriate manikin can be used for a wide variety of clothing items that differ in shape and size, e.g. children's, women's or men's clothing. The interchangeable arrangement of the manikin guarantees that the clothing item will fit well.
