Steel alloy for permanent magnets form the subject of the invention
Permanent magnets made entirely or partially of austenitic materials based on iron-chromium-nickel
or iron-chromium-manganese and are partially martensitic due to cold deformation
have been made. These permanent magnet materials have the essential advantage
on that they can be easily deformed and therefore especially for manufacture
of such permanent magnets are suitable that are subject to extensive hot or cold deformation
need. In addition, they can be used to achieve good magnetic values without
they are heavily exposed to foreign exchange.
The composition of the permanent magnets according to the invention is expediently kept within the following limits: o to 0.3 % carbon, 0.5 to 25% chromium, o to 20% manganese, o to 15% nickel, io to 25% nickel and manganese.
A nitrogen content of up to 0.5% is also recommended. An alloy of the following composition is preferably used: up to 0.15% carbon, 14 to 15% chromium, 12 to 14% manganese, 1 to 2% nickel, 0.05 to 0.15 ° / o nitrogen, remainder iron.

The cold working of the alloys can e.g. B. be done by rolling, pulling or hammering. High degrees of deformation have proven to be advantageous. A tempering treatment after cold working has also proven to be beneficial. The tempering treatment can be carried out at about 40 ° to 65 °, preferably at 45 ° to 55 °. The level of the tempering temperature depends on the particular composition and on the properties desired. In general, higher tempering temperatures lead to higher coercive forces and lower tempering temperatures lead to higher remanence values, since the maximum values of the remanence are generally reached at lower temperatures than the maximum values of the coercive force. An increase in the tempering temperature beyond that at which the maximum value of the remanence or the coercive force is reached causes these values to decrease again. The effect of the tempering treatment on an 80% cold-worked alloy with 0.3% carbon, 15% chromium, 14% manganese, 1.5% nickel and 0.4% nitrogen comes from the the number table below A n la ß beha nd lung R e to e nz Ko rz e i t i vkraft I Br H c X

The cold working and, if necessary, the tempering treatment can be repeated. The tempering treatment can also be carried out before the cold working.
The alloys used according to the invention are particularly suitable
for the production of permanent magnets with compact shapes, e.g. B. for magnetic needles,
Compass needles, moving coil instruments and power generators.
