EMI1.1

EMI1.1
The invention relates to ferromagnetic alloys based on iron-nickel-copper. It is known about such alloys that certain compositions are characterized by high permeability, other compositions by a particularly low coercive force.
According to the invention, the composition of highly permeable ferromagnetic alloys based on iron-nickel-copper is chosen so that the content of the three components mentioned above lies within the coherent area indicated in the composition diagram of the drawing by a hatched coherent area. The alloy must also contain molybdenum, u. between an amount that is greater than 1 o, but no more than 10%. As the diagram in the drawing shows, these are those containing molybdenum
EMI1.2
the permeability also coincides with the minimum of the coercive force.
It has already been proposed in and of itself to add molybdenum to ferromagnetic alloys. For example, a small amount of molybdenum has been used in iron-nickel alloys in order to increase the specific resistance. In these alloys, however, the molybdenum content
EMI1.3
the values achieved were all above He = 0'035 Oersted.
However, if iron-nickel-copper alloys with 40 to 90% nickel and a maximum of 25% iron with a maximum of 55 "" copper are added a molybdenum amount of 0-5 to 10% according to the invention, significantly higher initial permeabilities and lower coercive forces can be achieved.
Advantageous results are obtained if the composition of the alloy is chosen so that its iron-nickel-copper content is in the range indicated on the drawing. For example, an alloy with 70 u nickel, 13 o iron and 17% copper in this range has an initial permeability of p. o = 18,000 achievable. However, if, according to the invention, a composition of 70% nickel, 10% iron, 17% copper and 3% molybdenum is chosen, the value of the initial permeability can be increased to po = 25,000.
While initial permeabilities of around 18,000 are obtained with molybdenum-free iron-nickel-copper alloys, the optimum attainable with molybdenum-containing alloys is more than twice as high. For example, initial permeabilities in excess of 40,000 have been achieved, u. between at the same time with a reduction of the coercive force. More precise values are compiled in the following table, which enables a comparison of molybdenum-free with molybdenum-containing iron-nickel-copper alloys.

The molybdenum-free alloys are quenched in air and the molybdenum-containing alloys are cooled slowly in the furnace. This difference in treatment method is discussed below.
As the table shows, in the case of alloys according to the invention, in addition to the high initial permeability, coercive forces between 0-01 and 0'02 can be achieved, that is to say are considerably lower than the best values achieved so far with ferromagnetic alloys. So far, similarly low values could only be achieved with pure iron in the laboratory; however, it was not possible to use these favorable values technically, since it is difficult to economically produce iron of sufficient purity in large quantities, and it is also practically impossible to keep the iron pure during the necessary processing. In contrast, there are no difficulties in producing and processing ferromagnetic alloys according to the invention.
In addition, the specific resistance values achieved at the same time as the low coercive force are significantly greater and therefore more favorable than with pure iron.
Due to the low values of the coercive force, the material according to the invention is extremely important, e.g. B. for the production of relays, which is very simplified due to the coercive force, which is no longer disruptive. A valuable advancement for the fabrication of magnetic bodies
EMI2.2
Temperature deterrent. The addition of a molybdenum content has the effect that the most favorable magnetic properties are now achieved by slow cooling. For example, the material is held at an annealing temperature of about 11,000 ° C. for 5 to 10 hours and then slowly cooled in the furnace.
Avoiding a quenching process not only simplifies the manufacture of the magnetic bodies, but also eliminates the risk of thermal stresses occurring in the body, which deteriorate its magnetic properties.
In addition, the increase in specific resistance, which is known per se, is also achieved by adding molybdenum, as can be seen from the table.
