Die so gewonnenen kolloidähnlichen Dispersionen des Schwefels neigen, wenn nicht sehr große Mengen an Zusatzstoffen Verwendung finden, zur Bildung eines Sediments, das mit der Zeit eine immer festere Beschaffenheit annimmt. Der Bodensatz läßt sidi schließlich nicht wieder durch einfache mechanische Behandlung wie Schütteln oder Rühren mit der darüberstehenden wäßrigen Phase vermischen. Durch Einlagerung unlöslicher Stoffe, wie Isaolin, Kreide, Talkum und Zinkoxyd, kann zwar erreicht werden, daß sich das Sedimentvolumen vergrößert, also eine Auflockerung des Bodensatzes stattfindet.
