The invention relates to a central noise suppressor for motor vehicles according to the preamble of claim 1.

With such centre armrests with a built-in telephone, care must be taken to ensure that the telephone cable is placed in the space provided for it in the centre armrest when the telephone is not in use, otherwise the cover cannot be closed. One way of achieving this effect is to make this space large enough that the telephone cable lies in this space largely by itself when the telephone receiver is put down, with the user only having to help it a little to achieve this. In particular, when a telephone is equipped with additional functions, for example a device for recording conversations, the space available for accommodating the telephone cable is so small that the telephone cable has to be placed relatively neatly in this space in order to accommodate it completely and to be able to close the cover. The invention is based on the object of creating a center armrest of the type specified, in which it is ensured that the telephone cable is automatically and completely placed in the space provided for it after the handset is put down, so that the cover can be closed without difficulty.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the features specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.

In the proposal according to the invention, the telephone cable is guided through the bracket in such a way that after the receiver is put down, it assumes a certain position relative to the space provided for the cable. This means that the telephone cable's contraction is not hindered by the bracket due to its inherent tension, since the rotating sleeve carried by the bracket's web reduces the friction that occurs when the cable is pulled together on the bracket to a minimum.

Since the bracket extends into the space for the telephone cable when the lid is closed, this space is divided into two parts by the bracket, each of which has to accommodate a specific section of the telephone cable. The center armrest shown in Fig. 1 has a housing 1 with an interior 2 for accommodating a telephone 3, which can be closed by a cover 5 hinged to an end wall 4 of the housing 1. In the interior 2 of the housing, next to the telephone 3, a space 6 is provided, which serves to accommodate the spiral-shaped telephone cable 7 when the telephone receiver 8 is hung up.

adjacent to the space 6 used to accommodate the telephone cable 7 .

The spiral-shaped telephone cable 7 has a straight section 19 (Fig. 2) at a certain point between its ends, which on the one hand makes it easier to insert the cable into the interior of the bracket 14 and on the other hand, when the telephone receiver 8 is placed on the cable, fixes the cable 7 in such a way that the sections of the cable lying on both sides of the guide bracket 10 fit into the space to the left or right of the guide bracket 10 when the cover 5 is closed. When the telephone receiver 8 is placed on the cable, the telephone cable 7 contracts under its own tension until the bracket 10 comes to lie between adjacent turns 20 and 21 of the telephone cable 7. The inherent tension of the cable 7 is then no longer sufficient to guide the cable further through the bracket.
