The innovation concerns the design and equipment of a multi-person hyperbaric chamber for medical use.

Beyond the classic application in diving medicine, HBO is gaining recognition in the therapy, prophylaxis and rehabilitation of a growing number of general medical indications. Development is in full swing.

There are currently two types of pressure chambers in use &ggr;

- Hyperbaric multi-person pressure chambers

- One-man hyperbaric pressure chambers.

Based on the consideration that single-person pressure chambers for patients result in subjectively and objectively decisive disadvantages and limitations for therapy and treatment processes of all kinds due to the narrowness and isolation from other people, especially medical staff, when the overpressure is built up and in the hyperbaric phase, the innovation is based on the concept of a multi-person pressure chamber.

Conventional multi-person pressure chambers are designed in a tube shape. This shape results in poor use of space; in particular, standing upright is only possible in the middle. In addition, it easily leads to claustrophobia or other stresses that are detrimental to therapy in patients, especially during the pressure build-up phase.

The innovation is based on the task of developing a hyperbaric pressure chamber for multiple people that is designed differently than conventional pressure chambers and is therefore better adapted to the environment that people are used to. This task is solved in the innovation by arranging the walls, ceiling and floor of the chamber at right angles to each other, so that the chamber has a cubic shape.

This not only makes it easier to accept HBO and thus achieve the therapeutic goal. In addition, it is possible to carry out combination therapies, stress tests and regeneration treatments under HBO in the presence of medical staff thanks to better use of space.

The cubic design of the chamber is achieved by limiting the maximum diving depth to 12 m. This also leads to a higher level of safety, as no decompression times need to be observed. Today, it is medically recognized that with a diving depth of 12 m, the general medical indications for HBOT are largely covered, i.e. that greater depths are essentially only required in pure diving medicine (diving accidents).

The chamber on which the innovation is based is dimensioned in such a way that, during the HBO phase, systemically controlled hyperthermia and ergometry in the form of treadmill ergometry and ergometry using hand or foot cranks are possible at the same time, and the presence of medical staff also enables constant monitoring and adjustment as needed.

Finally, the multi-person pressure chamber on which the invention is based is designed in such a way that it can be driven by a towing vehicle to any location accessible by road and can be operated independently of external supply facilities during the journey or at any location.

The entire box with dimensions of 5,500 x 2,500 x 2,600 mm can be transported away by helicopter using eyelets. It can also be jacked up using hydraulic supports so that the low-draft car can be moved away. The box is provided with 4 studs so that it can be mounted directly on the chassis.
