So
von q.5o/o (Carriere, Ann.deChimie Bd. 17, S. 38, insbesondere S. 74 [192j2(]);
Process for the preparation of γ-oxocarboxylic acids The previously known
Methods for the preparation of certain y-oxo acids, such as succinaldehydic acid, maleic aldehyde acid,
the ß-acetylacrylic acid and others are not very suitable preparatively. So
the succinaldehydic acid is obtained from formylsuccinic acid in at most one yield
by q.5o / o (Carriere, Ann.deChimie vol. 17, p. 38, especially p. 74 [192j2 (]);
the preparation of maleic aldehyde from pyrocucic acid succeeds in the only one
preparatively practicable method according to Pech t (reports dtsch. chem. Ges. Bd. 38,
S. I272 [1905J) with a yield of 2.711 / o of the theory, doc) h could v. Auwer.s
and Wissebach (reports @dtsch. chem. Ges. Bd.56, p.734. [1937]) only half
the yields given by P e ch t.
Crotonlaktone (I und II, R =
C H3, =@ C2 115; R1, R2, R3 = H). Die Spaltung wird durch a n-Salzsäure bereits-
in der Kälte in wenigen Stunden, in der Snedehitze in wenigen Minuten. bewirkt;
It has now been found that the above-mentioned, as well as previously unknown;, - oxocarboxylic acids advantageously and in many cases surprisingly easily from alkoxylactones of the general. Formulas can be obtained by hydrolysis, especially acid hydrolysis. Depending on the ease with which the hydrolysis occurs, the acidity and temperature should be changed. In addition to the mineral acids, stronger organic acids, such as toluenesulphonic acid, trichloroacetic acid and the like, can also be used as acids, but are sufficient in some cases; also tartaric acid, oxalic acid. The 'easiest is the cleavage of -methoxy-, ethoxy- and propyloxy-, butyro- or. Croton lactones (I and II, R = C H3, = @ C2 115; R1, R2, R3 = H). The cleavage is already carried out by a n-hydrochloric acid in a few hours in the cold, in a few minutes in the heat of the sea. causes; functional one goes. from, are made of methoxylactones. In some cases, the cleavage can also take place in the absence of an acid by the action of water vapor alone.
Oxosäure bleibt in einer für die meisten Zwecke genügender>< Reinheit zurück;
In many cases, the oxo acids formed are already in the
can use the solution obtained, but the compounds can also be used
easily win with the usual methods. Besond'e'rs has proven itself in 'the representation
the succinic and maleic aldehydic acid, as well as the ß-acetylacrylic acid, the following embodiment
of the process: The ethoxylactone to be split is mixed with a small amount of hydrochloric acid
added (1 ccm 2 n @ hydrochloric acid is already sufficient for 10 moles of ethoxylactone) and then
steam is passed in with reflux until the cleavage is complete and a homogeneous one
Liquid is formed. Then alcohol (possibly with the introduction of
of steam) and, water, distilled off towards the end under reduced pressure, and the
Oxo acid remains in a> <purity sufficient for most purposes;
it can then be recrystallized for further purification or distilled in vacuo
will.
955
bis 96o g flüssige Maleinaldehydsäure, die mach dem Erkalten alsbald kristallisiert;
F = 49 bis 53° (Literatur 540). Ausbeute 9601o der Theorie.The process can also be used for the preparation of hydrogenated phthalaldehyde acids by subjecting the lactone ethers obtained from the alkoxycrotone lactones by diene synthesis to acid hydrolysis. It should be noted that these lactone ethers are much more difficult to hydrolyze than the compounds mentioned above. Example-i In a flask fitted with a finite reflux condenser, ia8o.g (10 mol) of ethoxycrotone lactone are mixed with 1 ccm of 2N hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid. Steam is then passed into the liquid until a solution of about twice its volume is obtained. Then alcohol and water are distilled off in vacuo towards the end with a descending condenser. 955 to 96o g of liquid maleic aldehyde acid remain in the flask, which crystallizes immediately after cooling; F = 49 to 53 ° (Literature 540). Yield 9601o of theory.
