Die Brutwaben haben hierbei normales Standmaß, beispielsweise Zandermaß oder Normalmaß und werden in Längsrichtung in dem Ablegerkasten angeordnet. Weiterhin sind zur Bildung eines neuen Bienenvolks sogenannte Begattungskästchen bekannt, in die eine kleine Zahl Bienen zusammen mit einer unbegatteten Königin oder einer in Kürze schlüpfenden Weiselzelle eingesetzt werden. Naqh dem Begattungsflug der Königin wird dieser Grundstock für ein neues Bienenvolk in einen Ablegerkasten oder einen Kasten normaler Größe umgesetzt, wobei der Raum für die Bienen durch ein Trennschied entsprechend verkleinert wird. Der erfindungsgemäße Kasten bietet dem Imker verschiedene Zuchtmöglichkeiten. Zum einen kann er als Begattungskasten verwendet werden, ohne daß nach dem Begattungsflug der Königin ein Umsetzen der Bienen in einen anderen Kasten erforderlich ist. Der Kasten wird hierzu zunächst mit wenigen Rähmchen im Halbformat bestückt und kann je nach Wachstum des Volkes schrittweise durch Einhängen weiterer Rähmchen erweitert werden. Die Anordnung der halbformatigen Rähmchen hat hierbei den Vorteil, daß der bevölkerte Innenraum des Kastens,insbesondere wenn das Volk noch klein ist, der natürlichen K.ugelform eines Bienenstocks sehr nahe kommt, so daß sich günstige Entwicklungsbedingungen für das junge Bienenvolk ergeben. Hat das auf diese Weise herangezogene Jungvolk die Größe des Kastens erreicht, so kann es ohne Nachteil in einen Kasten üblichen Standformats umgesetzt werden, wobei das Rähmchen-Standmaß durch Zusammensetzen jeweils zweier halbformatiger Rähmchen erreicht wird. Soll mit Hilfe von Brutwaben eines Wirtschaftsvolks ein Ableger gebildet werden, so läßt sich der erfindungsgemäße Kasten in herkömmlicher Weise als Ablegerkasten verwenden, indem die Brutwaben, die übliches Standmaß haben, in Längsrichtung in den Kasten eingehängt werden. Weiterhin bietet diese Ausgestaltung die Möglichkeit, den Kasten in seiner Höhe durch Aufeinandersetzen zweier Zargen zu erweitern. In dieser Größe eignet sich der Kasten hervorragend zum Überwintern von Königinnen bzw.
