Bekanntlich lassen sich harte keramische Materialien, die eine Härte
von beispielsweise 8 und mehr der Mohsschen Skala aufweisen, wie gesintertes Aluminiumoxyd
u. dgl., besonders wenn sie mit härtenden Zusätzen, wie Chromoxyd u. ähnl., versehen
sind, nur sehr schwer bearbeiten. Derartige gesinterte keramische Materialien müssen
entweder mit Diamant geschliffen werden, was das Verfahren der Formgebung außerordentlich
verteuert oder bei der Anwendung anderer üblicher Schleifmittel, wie Siliciumcarbid
oder Borcarbid u. dgl., bedarf es sehr langer Behandlungszeiten, um ein vorgeschriebenes
Maß zu erzielen. Bei keramisch gebundenen Schleifmaterialien tritt ein unverhältnismäßig
hoher Verschleiß der Schleifscheiben auf. Zur rascheren und intensiveren Bearbeitung
kann erfindungsgemäß beispielsweise folgendermaßen verfahren werden: An einem Stab
i, dessen Durchmesser um einen bestimmten Betrag verringert werden soll, wird eine
Vielzahl von Elektroden 2 nebeneinander angebracht, deren Spitzen auf dem zu bearbeitenden
Material i aufsitzen. Auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite ist eine an sich bekannte
Schleifscheibe 3 angebracht. Das Werkstück wird nun in drehende Bewegung versetzt,
während gleichzeitig eine kühlende und elektrisch leitende Flüssigkeit durch eine
geeignete Zuführung4 aufgegeben wird, derart, daß das Werkstück nur mit einer ganz
dünnen Schicht der Flüssigkeit überzogen wird. Die zweite Elektrode wird auf eine
geeignete Weise 5 (Fig. II) so angebracht, daß ein Stromdurchgang stattfindet. Das
Werkstück kann während seiner Drehbewegung auch gleichzeitig noch in seiner Längsrichtung
hin und her bewegt werden, so daß es ständig an dem Ele'ktrodenkamm 2 vorbeigleitet.

wird ein wesentlicher Teil der Arbeit, den die Schleifscheiben bisher leisten mußten,
abgenommen, wodurch das Sdhleifwerkzeug einmal wesentlich geschont und zum anderen
die Arbeitszeit bedeutend verringert wird. Durch Variation der Spannung kann der
Angriff in beliebiger Weise geregelt werden. Um den durch die Elektroden hervorgerufenen
