Description
Process for dyeing shaped articles made of cellulose acetate or Vinyl Polymers Tetrahydrofuran or its homologues are known to be good solvents for dyes that are used to color paints. However, it has not been so far known that solutions of dyes in tetrahydrofuran for dyeing molded Formations from cellulose acetate or vinyl polymers can be used.
The present invention relates to a process for dyeing threads, fibers, rovings, artificial horsehair, films, foils, hollow bodies, knitted fabrics, woven fabrics and other objects made of cellulose acetate or vinyl polymers with solutions of dyes in tetrahydrofuran or its homologues of the general formula where R1, R2, R3 and R4 'represent hydrogen or alkyl. The dyeing can also be carried out in a solvent mixture which consists of the tetrahydrofurans mentioned and volatile organic solvents. In some cases, the solutions of the dyes in tetrahydrofuran or its homologues can also be used in a predominantly aqueous bath. In summary, the solutions under consideration have the following advantages: i. If you work in anhydrous or water-containing organic solutions, the coloration takes place immediately, even at ordinary temperature. This allows any desired color shade to be achieved, even the darkest shades, without the objects to be colored becoming hard or changing in shape. However, if desired, a thread or other object to be dyed can be stretched to a greater or lesser extent during dyeing. The dyeing can also be carried out continuously or discontinuously in the course of the various mechanical operations to which the article is subjected, e.g. B. when winding, twisting or padding, that is, in operations in which the material to be dyed is moved at a fairly high speed.
Dye solutions in which the dyes are dissolved in tetrahydrofuran are, give an extremely fine when water or aqueous solutions are added Distribution of the dye. This is known to occur when dyeing in an aqueous bath water-insoluble dyes are extremely important.
The volatility of the solvent according to the invention also allows in the case of dyeing in an aqueous bath, just as in dyeing using exclusively organic solvent, the solvent retained by the colored object easy and quick to remove. This removal of the solvent is of particular interest when threads, fabrics or other objects are in motion with interruptions or should only be colored in places.
The application of the present procedure permits the use of cellulose acetate and lacquer dyes with very good utilization. Dyes of others Classes, e.g. B. acidic or basic dyes, according to their solubility also in tetrahydrofurans or in mixtures containing these solvents be used. The same applies to the use of individual dye components.
With the same dye concentration in the dyebath, the use of tetrahydrofuran on cellulose acetate gives a stronger color than the use of tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol proposed in French patent 842 967. The depth of coloration can be further improved if the amount of tetrahydrofuran is increased up to 40%. In this way of working, the tissue remains unchanged, while the use of 40% tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol gives it a hard grip. If dye baths with tetrahydrofuran are used in place of the tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol proposed in French patent 865 91 8, significantly better dyeing results are achieved with polyvinyl threads even at room temperature. The differences become even clearer at 5o °. Tetrahydrofuran instead of tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol greatly simplifies the treatment of the fabric when dyeing in aqueous baths. The tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol proposed in French patent 8o9 836 is a heavy liquid with a high boiling point that cannot be removed from the dye liquor during the dyeing process. It sticks to the tissue. As a result, the fabric is slightly plastic at the end of the dyeing process, so that it cannot be hot-dried, finished or calendered without the risk of melting or hardening the fabric. However, after the dyestuff has been dispersed, the volatile tetiahydrofuran leaves the dye liquor when the bath temperature rises, so that at the end of the dyeing process there is no longer any tetrahydrofuran in the bath. The fabric treated in this way can be processed further immediately after dyeing in the same way as when dyeing in conventional dye baths. Example i A sheared chain of polyvinyl chloride threads is passed over a moistening cylinder at a speed of 12 m / min. A deep blue color is obtained. Example 2 A cellulose acetate thread is passed over a moistening cylinder while it is being unwound, which is filled with a solution of 40 gi, 4, 5, 8-tetraaminoanthraquinone, 8 g 4-amino-3, 2'-dimethyl-i, i'- azobenzene, 6 gi oxy-4-aminoanthraquinone, 7oo cc denatured alcohol, 300 cc tetrahydrofuran soaks.
Beispiel 3 ioo g i, 4, 5, 8-Tetraaminoanthrachinon werden in Zoo g Tetrahydrofuran gelöst. This thread, which is colored black at regular intervals, can be wound up again shortly after the moistening cylinder without the white areas being soiled by the colored areas. Example 3 100 gi, 4, 5, 8-tetraaminoanthraquinone are dissolved in zoo g of tetrahydrofuran. The solution is gradually added to 10% of a lukewarm 20% soap solution. The solution is diluted to 2,000 liters in a dye vat with soft water. Pieces of cellulose acetate artificial silk weighing 50 kg are placed in this bath and dyed there for one hour at 50 to 55 °. A uniform dyeing is obtained very quickly with better utilization of dye than if dyeing was carried out only in a soap bath. In the course of the dyeing process, the tetrahydrofuran evaporates and does not remain in the thread, which consequently does not become plastic. Example 4 A spool ring made of polyvinyl chloride threads is immersed in a solution of 25 g of a blue paint dye in 65o g of methyltetrahydrofuran and 350 g of denatured alcohol. As soon as the moisture penetration is complete, this is indicated by the cessation of the beading of air bubbles, the bobbin ring is removed, squeezed off and dried in an air stream b, -i of normal temperature. The thread turns blue within a few minutes.
