Description

Ceramic material from clay slate masses. Ceramic processing of clay slate is already known. However, these masses do not meet that demands made on them. It was like that B. difficult to manage these masses to be processed in the dry pressing process, as cracks form at high pressures, so-called Foliations, resulted. In order to avoid these disadvantages, it has been suggested that to use an addition of asbestos or organic fiber, which however in turn, the mechanical and also the electrical insulation properties suffer.

According to the invention, a ceramic material is made from clay slate masses in the style of the Thuringian roof slate compared to the known masses improved that it contains an additive of up to 30% clay. By adding clay succeeds in increasing both the flexural strength and the impact strength significantly to increase so that the mechanical strength of steatite is almost reached. The ceramic mass according to the invention can be used in dry and wet pressing processes edit advantageous. Also can in the hot pressing process without difficulty, for example Body are made into which a thread is screwed. The firing temperature is very low, at Segerkegel 5 to 6, so that the burning process is extreme economically designed. The shrinkage is due to the loss on ignition of the Slate material is low, very small (40/0, as with soapstone), so that just as with steatite masses very dimensionally accurate pressed parts can be produced.

An offset of 80% clay slate has proven to be particularly advantageous. Contains 10% clay, 5% calcined clay and 5% bentonite. Such a mass can in many cases replace a steatite mass, which is a particular advantage It can be seen that the domestic bacon stone deposits are very limited.
