Description

Chemical process for producing high-gloss surfaces on aluminum and aluminum alloys. which contain hydrogen, ammonium, nitrate and fluoride ions, the ratio of the fluoride ions to one another being selected so that ammonium bifluoride can form. It has been found that these solutions achieve a higher gloss effect if small amounts of lead salts are added to them, preferably 0.05 to 0.5 g of lead per liter of bath solution. The bath solution can also contain a content of free acid or ammonium fluoride.

Example of a solution containing 13 percent by weight nitric acid and 16 Weight percent ammonium @ bifluoride contains, o, o2 weight percent lead nitrate admitted. The objects are heated in at, approximately 50 ° C for about 15 seconds treated with this solution, whereby a high-gloss surface is achieved.
