Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The present invention relates to a method of coloring blocks or objects from natural or artificial stone containing calcium carbonate in such a way that thereby Marble of any kind can be imitated. It is based on several operations known in detail, which are described below should be briefly discussed:
It has been suggested that calcium carbonate. Stones to color and up to To harden polish and grindability, that they can be hardened with solutions of sulfuric acid metal salts, like zinc and. Iron salts, soaked and then optionally treated with water (See the one in the 1870 year of negotiations on the promotion of the Gewerbefleifs contained treatise on. the production of a yellowish color tone on white marble types, and Lehner's writing on imitations, J. .1883, p. 209). In the former it is also pointed out that the rock must be dried before treatment. Farther, is the process of staining stones in certain desired places against the action to cover with dye, common, as on the other hand, the dyeing of stones medium organic dyes by immersion in a solution or successively in solutions of different Dyes is known (Patent No. 16818). Prerequisite for success In the process there is of course a certain porosity of the stone, such that the coloring liquids penetrate deep enough into the interior of the stone. The present invention relates now on a combined process, which is characterized by the fact that calcium carbonate Stones, after they have been subjected to a reserve process, one after the other in solutions of various metal salts, under which the same solution can also be used repeatedly, be immersed .. Ffierr through and through the covering of individual parts of the surface of what is to be treated. Stone material before impregnation: there are special color effects and irregularities in coloring.
Die Wahl dieser Lösungen hängt von der zu erzielenden Farbwirkung ab.The metal salt solutions that are used to color the prepared stone can be of various kinds, but solutions of metal sulphates (iron, Use copper, zinc or the like). The choice of these solutions depends on the one to be achieved Color effect.
This coloring is then immediately followed by rinsing out the superfluous coloring solutions by immersing the colored stone or object in water, which is expedient is taken warm (around 50 ° C. or above). The water works in a way a fixation and development of the marble-like color effects. The one in this Wise colored stone can finally be added by zinc sulphate, for example according to the method of Patent No. 76083.
The details of the process are given in the following examples.
Der Block oder der zu färbende Gegenstand wird, falls er noch nicht etwa schon genügend trocken ist, zunächst getrocknet, indem er einem freien Luftstrom ausgesetzt oder der Einwirkung von trockener warmer Luft unterworfen wird, dann auf seiner Oberfläche entsprechend demThe block or the object to be colored becomes, if it is not already sufficient is dry, first dried by exposure to or exposure to a free flow of air is subjected to dry warm air, then on its surface according to that
This can be done by hand Brush or by means of overpressure or Transfer paper happen, or it becomes the coating mass whitewashed with a sponge or in some other way on the surface of the block applied. A protective coating in the form of veins of natural marble the paint is preferably in the one commonly used for surface decorations Way applied to the surface in the form of a veined drawing. A Firnifs, consisting of 48 parts turpentine, 16 parts spruce or fir resin and 3 parts of iron sesquioxide, or Preufsisch Roth, has been found to be useful. Such a Firnifs are applied to the surface in strips or dots by means of brushes, paintbrushes or sticks brought a water bath, whereupon the firnif spreads on the water and by means of brushes, paintbrushes or chopsticks, the firnif membrane according to the veins of the natural one Marble is divided. The various surfaces of the block are then placed on this surface of water, so that the firnifs sticks to the surfaces and in this way the block or other object provided with a protective coating, which in the form and shape of the veins of the corresponds to natural marble.
Now the block is ready for treatment in the dye baths. When the latter is done before the firnif coating is completely dry, the color of the firnifs will be to some extent penetrate. Depending on how you dry the firnifs more or less the colors produced are different.
The dyeing process may be described in the following on the basis of the use of three baths, which consist of solutions of: A) iron sulfate, B) copper sulfate, C) zinc sulfate from 20 to 35 0 B.
Man taucht z. B. den Block auf einander folgend in:With these baths you can get different color shades in brown, yellow and green obtain. Below is a table of the various times that are required are to achieve the effects in question with a block or a stone or lime slab approx. 30 mm thick and of any size bring forth. One dives z. B. the block consecutively in:
Bad A V2 Minute lang,Bad AV for 2 minutes,
- c y.2 -- c y. 2 -
- A i-- A i-
- B 2 Minuten - ,- B 2 minutes -,
- A 3 -- A 3 -
- C 4 -- C 4 -
By making these dips in sequence, one obtains a brown and a yellow one Veining, somewhat similar to Sienna marble, sometimes with inner green spots, though for some reason only copper solution has reached such places. Veins in gray and brown can be produced by the following dips in sequence will:
Bad A Y2 Minute lang,Bad AY for 2 minutes,
- B- ι -- B- ι -
- A 2 Minuten - ,- A 2 minutes -,
- B 3 -- B 3 -
- A 4 -- A 4 -
~ Tief gefärbte Adern von Gelb und Braun bis Schwärzlich können durch folgende Eintauchungen erzeugt werden:~ Deep colored veins from yellow and brown to blackish can be caused by the following immersion be generated:
Bad A Y2 Minute lang,Bad AY for 2 minutes,
- A 2 Minuten - ,- A 2 minutes -,
- B 3 -- B 3 -
-A 4 --A 4 -
After the sequence of immersion in the dye baths has been completed, the Block in a bath of 50 to 100 ° G of hot water for about 30 minutes Such a water bath, as already briefly mentioned, the superfluous ones are not yet firmly attached Color solutions adhering to the individual parts of the stone are removed and rinsed out, so'.afs thus to a certain extent the coloration is interrupted in an irregular manner and one marble-like color effect occurs. If one were to omit the treatment with water, so the color solutions absorbed by the porous stone would soon merge into one another and there would be no veining. The water fixes and thus develops the various Colors in the stone. It was found that, in some cases, the color did not appear fully before it did so after half an hour Immerse in the hot water bath.
The protective coating can be removed by scraping or grinding with pumice stone, the block can then be dried and, if desired, hardened.
If a block treated as described above is cut through, one finds that the colors follow one another in irregular layers, or, better said, arise create uneven areas of color following one another.
DasThese successive surfaces appear during successive immersions to wander through the block, so to speak, one color forcing the other into the interior of the stone and thus the formed ones Brings out colors. Iron sulphate alone produces a yellow color, copper sulphate on the other hand a green one. The mixtures of these two, however, produce different brown, good-looking shades. That
