Soweit es sich um Platten zu Dachdeckungszwecken handelt, bestehen diese Platten, zu deren Herstellung in der Regel Faserstoffe verwendet werden, meistens aus Asbest als Faserstoff und Zement als Abbindemittel. Es wurde nun gefunden, daß Platten guter Qualität auch ohne Verwendung eines eigentlichen Faserstoffes sich herstellen lassen. Erfindungsgemäß werden statt der bisher gebräuchlichen Faserstoffe Metalldrähte verwendet. Die Metalldrähte gelangen entweder in Form von kurzen Drahtstücken (Hackdraht) oder langen dünnen Drähten zur Anwendung. Die Metalldrähte sind in der Masse ungeordnet verteilt. Zur Erhöhung der Widerstandskraft gegen Zug- und Druckspannungen können die Platten auf an sich bekannte Weise überdies mit geordnet verteilten Metallfäden, Metallnetzen oder ähnlich wirkenden Mitteln bewehrt werden.
