Process for the purification of ethers of polyhydric alcohols In the main patent 805 756 a process for the purification of i, 3-butylene glycol is claimed, in which i, 3-butylene glycol with a volatile organic extractant, which for t, 3-butylene glycol is expediently as low as possible, has the best possible dissolving power for the impurities, is treated, whereupon the r, 3-butylene glycol is separated from the extractant and, if necessary, the extractant dissolved in the r, 3-butylene glycol is removed under mild conditions.
It has now been found that they can also be mixed with water in an analogous manner
Ethers of polyvalent alcohols from the smell inherent in them from production
can be liberated by using a volatile organic extractant,
that is as good as possible for impurities and as good as possible for ethers
has poor dissolving power, treated, then separating the extractant
and if necessary, dissolved extractant removed under mild conditions.
B. Diglyköläther in Betracht,
anderer mehrwertiger Alkohole reinigen. The process is particularly useful for those producible from ethylene oxide,
water-miscible glycol and polyglycol, e.g. B. diglycol ether into consideration,
but other ethers which are miscible with water can also be used in the manner indicated
other polyhydric alcohols.
des Geschmackes erzielt,. was z. B.
In many cases it will also eliminate the annoying odorous substances
also an improvement
of taste achieved. what z. B.
in the case of the use of the ether for the production of essences, lemonades, etc. decisive
is.
Als Extraktionsmittel .kommen z. B. Benzinkohlenwasserstoffe in Frage,
Beispiel i i kg des Äthyläthers des Diglykols in Form seiner 5o"/oigen wäßrigen
As an extractant, z. B. Gasoline hydrocarbons in question,
which can be used to extract the anhydrous and water-containing ethers.
Also other volatile organic compounds, which in themselves are water-soluble ethers
dissolve polyvalent alcohols, such as benzene hydrocarbons, ethers, such as ethyl ether,
Methyl butyl ether, esters, e.g. B. ethyl ester, butyl acetate, chlorinated hydrocarbons,
such as carbon tetrachloride, come as an extractant when you use the

into the extractant, from which the purified water-containing ether is separated
will. It is useful to pass through the extracted ether after the removal of the
Extractant under mild conditions air or nitrogen for a short time.
Example i kg of the ethyl ether of diglycol in the form of its 50% aqueous
Solution is extracted twice with i kg of carbon tetrachloride each time. Then the
Aether at 3 to 4 mm pressure and temperatures up to about 85 ° is heated until
no more water and carbon tetrachloride pass over. Finally, for a short time
Time air or nitrogen blown through. The ether purified in this way is practically odorless
and indifferent in taste.
