Description

Production of anti-corrosive pigments Chromates are known to be used for rust protection because of its passivating effect. One needs for this mainly water-insoluble chromates, such as lead chromate, or also those of medium level Water solubility, such as zinc chromate. The first two is the passivating effect absolutely insufficient, in the case of the latter the resistance of the film becomes greatly reduced, and the passivation effect is still insufficient. For this reason one also has the very water-soluble chromates of the alkali group Herarigezögen, which, however, in and of themselves, precisely because of the water solubility are insufficient and significantly deteriorate the film properties. One therefore has also tries to bind these chromates with surfactants; through this the system is stabilized, but by the considerable amount of surface-active substances The water resistance of the fabrics is impaired again.

It has now been found that pigments with excellent passivating properties and, at the same time, very high film stability are obtained by depositing a mixture of compounds on inactive fillers which contains at least two of the metals calcium, strontium, barium, magnesium and zinc as cations and chromate ion as anions and also contains at least one anion of hydrochloric, phosphoric, silicic, hydrofluoric or boric acid. It is basically a matter of other bodies than the known mixed crystals of the type MeX04. What is obtained in this way is novel mixtures of alkaline earth (or magnesium or zinc) chromate and at least one surface-active substance (carbonate, phosphate, silicate, fluoride or borate of another of the metals mentioned) an inactive filler, e.g. B. barite, ouarzmehl, slate flour, hammer blow, are deposited. Examples i. 15 g of sodium dichromate in 150 g of water and 28 g of sodium carbonate in 28o g of water are finely mixed with zoo g of barite and precipitated cold with a solution of 50 g of barite chloride and 23 g of calcium chloride in 730 g of water.
