PATENTAMTPATENT OFFICE
The purpose of the present earth boring stock is to save the digging of a hole in the earth, which serves to identify the layers of earth lying one above the other. In order to be able to incorporate the same into the ground as easily as possible, the tip of the drill stock is kept fairly sharp and protected by a shoe 5, FIG. 1, which is pushed over it. This shoe is provided with a resilient latch K, Fig. 1, the nose b into the lowermost end a, Tig. 2, the nut of the stick snaps into place and holds the shoe in place. This pawl K is designed in such a way that it fits the groove of the stick so that it can be used together with the shoe as a scratch. The shoe S, Fig. Ι, serves as a handle when the earth mass located in the groove of the stick is to be scraped out by means of the upper end of the pawl. The metric division along the cutting edge of the stick allows a very comfortable reading of the individual layers of earth lying on top of each other. It is not always possible, despite the slender tip, to be able to insert the earth auger into the earth in its full length of approx. 75 cm by hand, and one is forced, if the lower layers of earth are made of dry loam, clay, etc. Drive the stick into the earth with a hammer or other tool. For this purpose, the stick is provided with a smooth, square or round shaft g at the top, FIG. 3, on which it can be struck for the purpose of driving it into the ground.
In order to prevent a head from upsetting, this piece of the shaft g is best made of cast steel and hardened.
Carrying a hammer or taking a tool with you to drive it in the stick is uncomfortable in the ground, the cane crutch or the handle is the Given the shape of a hammer. The hammer handle made of metal or wood is hollow and is if the instrument is to be used as a stick when walking, pushed over the stick and held in position on the stick by means of a split pin or pin (Fig. 2). In In this way, the hammer serves as a replacement for the handle (crutch) and, removed from the stick, as a hammer to drive the stick into the ground. The hammer or handle can be made of wood or metal.
So that the cotter pin is not lost when walking, it is provided with a slot at the front at h, FIG. 4, into which the extension of the pin is fitted and rotatably arranged about pin h, FIG. 4. Due to its own gravity, the extension falls down and the cotter pin can only be pulled out by lifting the extension, since the pivot point is on the center of the slot (Fig. 2 and 4 at i and h).
Fig. 5 zeigt den Schnitt nach c-d. Fig. 5 shows the section after cd.
Zur To make it easier to release the nose b , the pawl K has a second nose c at the upper end, which engages deeply in a slot d of the stick and is pushed out with the thumb when the shoe is removed. To the
besseren Darstellung dieser Einrichtung dienen die Fig. 6 und 7.FIGS. 6 and 7 serve to better illustrate this device.
