Description

Hochfest verschweißte, thermoplastische Chemiefasermatten.
Es ist bekannt, Kunststoffplatten und Folien, soweit sie aus thermoplastischem Material bestehen, durch Wärme und Druckeinwirkung miteinander zu verschweißen, indem beheizte Werkzeuge zwischen die Stoßkanten gleitend «τι^ί drückend bewegt werden- Es liegt nahe, auch Chemiefasermatten, soweit deren Fasern thermoplastisch sind, auf gleiche Weise zu verschweißen. Die Praxis zeigt aber, daß diese Schweißverbindung nicht reißfest ist und diese Methode daher nur begrenzt einsetzbar ist. Stoßschweißungen dieser Art gehen beim geringsten Zug auseinander, da nur einzelne Punkte, nämlich sich berührende Fasern miteinander verbunden sind, die wie bei Metallschweißungen
in der nahen Umgebung der Schweißung sehr brüchig geworden sind.
Man hat daher versucht, solche Aufgaben dadurch zu lösen, daß man ein zusätzliches Schweißband benutzte, dessen Schmelzpunkt niedriger ist als das der Fasern. Durch Einwirkung von Wärme wird das niedriger schmelzende Material plastisch und fließt mindestens teilweise zwischen die Faserlücken. Dabei werden eine Anzahl von Faserschlingen vom Schmelzmaterial umflossen. Nach der Erkaltung ist eine Verbindung erzielt, die erheblich besser ist als bei der zuerst beschriebenen Methode. Dennoch kann nicht von einer Verschweißung gesprochen werden, ^s ist nichx mehr a3 s eine Verklebung, die nicht als reißfest angesprochen werden kann.
Man hat daher vielfach eine Verbindung mittels Klebstoffen vorgezogen, wobei man es m der Hand hat, durch Einsatz gewisser Klebstoffmengen die Verbindung zu verbessern.

Dabei ist nicht zu vermeiden, daß der Klebstoff mindestens stellenweise durchschlägt, was ebenfalls unerwünscht ist.
Auf der Suche nach einer reißfesten Schweißverbindung hat sich nun überraschend gezeigt, daß eine solche dadurch zu schaffen ist, daß man im Bereich der Schweißung einen etwa 5 cm breiten Streifen aus dem gleichen Material entweder zwischen (bei Überlappungsschweißung) oder unter (bei Stoßverschweißung) die zu verschweißenden Mattenkanten legt, im ganzen Schweißbereich durch Heißluft die Fasern auf Schmelztemperatur bringt und dann die Teile durch Walzendruck zusammenpreßt. Nach dem Erkalten sind «ii3 Matten nicht nur hochreißfest verschweißt, sondern
optisch i3t die Schweißnaht wenigstens bei der Stoß-
verschweißung von oben nicht erkennbar. Bei der Überlappungsschweißung zeigt sich die Schweißnaht nur durch eine Verdichtung der Faserstruktur an. Bei der Stoßverschweißung mit dem Schweißband unter den Mattenkanten ist optisch keine Veränderung feststellbar, wenn die Matten mehr als 7 mm stark sind.
Die Güte der Schweißung nach dieser Methode ist zweifellos darauf zurückzuführen, daß sich die Faserschlingen der Matten vor dem Verschweißen mit den Faserschlingen des Schweißbandes innig verzahnen, in diesem Zustand schmilzen und durch den Druck zu einem mehr oder weniger dichten Band verbinden, welches nach dem Abkühlen in seiner ganzen Breite eine zugfeste Verbindung darstellt.
Da der Heißluftstrom durch Auswahl geeigneter Düsen so gesteuert werden kann, daß nicht nur die an den Oberflächen der zu verschweißenden Bahnen erwärmt werden, sondern der Luftstrahl sich im Gegensatz zu der bisher üblichen Beil- oder Spachtelerwärmung sowohl in das tiefe Fasergefüge als auch seitlich der Schweißstelle erwärmend ausdehnt, findet weder eine örtliche überhitzung noch ein plötzlicher Abbruch der Erwärmung statt,

so daß dadurch eine Versprödung der der Schweißstelle benachbarten Zone vermieden wird. Überraschenderweise korm man auf der der Verschweißung gegenüberliegenden Oberfläche auch keine Strukturveränderung der Fasern feststellen, was wahrscheinlich darauf zurückzuführen ist, daß die Erwärmung der Fasern bis auf die Gegenseite unterhalb des Schmelzpunktes geblieben ist.
Reißversuche und Vergleiche haben deutlich eine erhebliche Verbesserung der Zugfestigkeit gegenüber den älteren Schweiß- und Klebemethoden ergeben, so daß nunmehr eine Schweißverbindung geschaffen wurde, die hinsichtlich ihrer Festigkeit allen Ansprüchen genügt und optisch rieht wahrnehmbar ist.
Die beifolgenden Zeichnungen zeigen:
Fig. la die Einzelteile und ihre Ausbildung bei einer Überlappungsverschweißung, wobei mit 1 und 3 an den Kanten verdichtete Chemiefasermatten darstellen und mit 2 ein Schweißband aus Chemiefasern bezeichnet ist.
Fig. Ib zeigt die gleichen Teile nach der Heißluftverschweißung, wobei die Schweißstelle "S" eine deutliche Strukturverdichtung zeigt.
Fig. 2a stellt den Schnitt durch eine Stoßverschweißung dar. Das Schweißband 2 ist in die Kanten der verschweißten Matten eingedrückt worden, wobei eine Strukturverdichtung nur im Innern der Kanten feststellbar ist. Die Oberfläche und die der Schweißstelle benachbarten Zonen sind unverändert geblieben.
Fig. 2b zeigt die Stoßverschweißung von oben, die keine optisch wahrnehmbare Veränderung zeigt.

Claims (3)

Schutzansprüche
1. Hochfest verschweißte thermoplastische Chemiefasermatten (1+3) dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als zusätzliches Schweißmaterial ein Streifen (?.) einer durch ein Trägergevebe genadelten Chemiefasermatte aus dem gleichen Material verwendet worden ist.
2. Hochfest verschweißte thermoplastische Chemiefasermatten nach Anspruch 1 dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß bei Überlappungsverschweißungen die Außenkanten der zu verschweißenden Hatten (1-3) in etwa der halben Breite des Schweißbandes verdichtet sind.
3. Hochfest verschleißte thermoplastische Chemiefasermatten nach Anspr ;ch 1 dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß bei Stoßverschweißungen das Schweißband (2) unter der Stoßstelle angeschweißt worden ist.
k. Hochfest verschweißte thermoplastische Chemiefasermatten nach Anspruch 1 und 2 dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Fasern im Bereich der Schweißstellen durch einen Heißluftstrahl zum Schmelzen gebracht und die zu verschmelzenden Teile gleichzeitig durch den Druck kalter Walzen zusammengepreßt sind.
