konstant bleibt.Arrangement for holding the hot cathode in Braun tubes With hot cathode tubes, the distance from cathode to control electrode determines the position of the characteristic line and the necessary control voltage of the Braun tube. In the series production of such tubes for television purposes, it is desirable that the characteristic curve position is the same for all pieces of a production series in order to enable the tubes to be exchanged. This means that the distance between the end face of the cathode and the control electrode has the same size for all tubes. This condition is very difficult to adhere to, since the aforementioned distance is only a few ', `, o mm. This distance changes with the heating of the cathode, since it expands in its longitudinal direction as a result of the heating and thereby comes closer to the cathode. The expansion is practically in the same order of magnitude as the nominal value of the distance (according to measurements by the inventor, for example, the nominal value of the distance between cathode and Wehneltzylinder for a normal television tube is o.32 mm, and the advance due to the heating was o, ao mm dimensioned). This would be harmless if the advance always reached exactly the same size, because then the size of the advance stroke could be included in the dimensioning of the distance. It has been shown, however, that it takes a long time before the stationary state develops after switching on, and above all that differences in the cathode temperature reached result in considerable fluctuations in the advance. The temperature differences are unavoidable (mains voltage fluctuations, small differences in heat dissipation through the cathode holder). Even if the electrodes are other than the Wehnelt cylinder, changes in distance caused by migration of the cathode are harmful; because changes in distance cause undesirable changes in the: electron-optical conditions. In the case of the arrangement according to the invention for holding the hot cathode in Braunsehen tubes, any change in distance is avoided at all. The invention consists in compensating for the longitudinal expansion of the cathode when heated by a longitudinal expansion of its holder in such a way that the distance between the end face of the cathode and the control electrode, in particular the Wehnelt cylinder, remains constant.
dargestellt.
i i gehaltert. Diesen Haltefahnen, die möglicherweise aus Widerstandsmaterial, z.
B. Chromnickel., gebildet sind, wird auch der Heizstrom an den Stellen 12 zugeführt;
Some embodiments of the invention are shown in Figs
shown. In Fig. I, the cathode is labeled i. This cathode will
held by an insulating body 2, which also acts as a bushing for the power supply lines
3 serves. This body is provided with an angular bracket q. on the Wehnelt cylinder
5 attached. If the cathode expands as a result of the heating, it expands
at the same time also the retaining bracket 4. off. The specific longitudinal extent of this
Retaining bracket is taking into account the lower temperature that this bracket
assumes higher than the expansion of the cathode and the insulating body 2,
namely, the extent is chosen so that the end face of the cathode is their distance
not changed by the Wehnelt cylinder. Another embodiment of the invention
is shown in Figure 2. In this figure the cathode is io of two flags
i i kept. These retaining lugs, which may be made of resistance material, e.g.
B. Chrome-nickel., Are formed, the heating current is supplied to the points 12;
this also results in an additional and very defined heating of the retaining lugs
achieved, which result in a larger and very specific length expansion of the flags

Cathode is attached to the Wehnelt cylinder. Figure 3 shows a different example.

the holding rods are used to supply the heating current.
As already mentioned, the length extension of the holding lugs must be chosen in this way
so that it becomes equal to the linear expansion of the cathode. The cathode stretches
but because of their high temperature, they appear extremely strong, while the
Holding flags themselves come to a relatively low temperature because they are their
Heat can only be obtained through radiation and conduction from the cathode. The holding flags
must therefore be selected from a material whose specific linear expansion
is large in relation to the specific linear expansion of the cathode. It is
however, it is also possible to artificially heat the retaining tabs, as already done in the
Example. according to Fig. 2 and 3 to a lesser extent, the retaining lugs themselves
are warmed up somewhat by the heating current. This effect can be increased
by providing the retaining lugs with a special Hcizwickltit) g, for example
is in series with the heating of the cathode.
