bekannten Nickelskelettkatalysator (R a n ey, Amerik. Patent 1915 .473) an, so ist
zu erwarten, daß die Hydrierung z. B. bei I5o° schneller und vollständiger vor sich
geht. . Dies ist jedoch keineswegs der Fall.Process for the preparation of ß-oxybutyric acid esters It is known
Acetoacetic esters under pressure in the presence of nickel catalysts to form ß-oxydacetic esters
to hydrate. By increasing the temperature and pressure there is an increase
the yield is reached, but then form on complete hydrogenation of the acetoacetic ester
also unwanted by-products in larger quantities. If one turns to milder implementation options
to create, instead of the one used in the known process: by reduction
Nickel catalyst obtained from nickel oxide has a higher activity
known nickel skeleton catalyst (R a n ey, Amerik. Patent 1915 .473), so is
to expect that the hydrogenation z. B. at 150 ° faster and more complete in front of you
goes. . However, this is by no means the case.
On the basis of this finding, the view seems justified,
that a nickel skeleton catalyst is practically no better for the hydrogenation of
Acetoacetic ester is suitable. If at 15o ° no satisfactory result can be achieved
is, there is certainly no prospect of using lower temperatures
to success after the catalyst made from nickel oxide is known to be the first
is effective at temperatures above 100 ° at considerable excess pressure.
erheblich bessere, meist quantitative Ausbeuten erreicht; Nebenprodukte treten praktisch
überhaupt nicht auf.Compared to the known, the claimed method in which
the implementation can also be carried out at atmospheric pressure, considerable advantages
on. It enables the use of cheaper equipment and a simpler way of working.
In the method according to the invention at atmospheric pressure and also at overpressure
considerably better, mostly quantitative yields achieved; By-products come in handy
not at all.
According to the invention one works in the presence of nickel skeleton catalysts
at a temperature between that of the room and about 100 °, mainly between
5o and
about 100 degrees. It is surprising that at about Ioo ° the
Reaction comes to a standstill. Compliance with the specified limit temperature at
the implementation according to the invention is therefore of particular importance.
erhalten. In the simplest embodiment, the hydrogen is passed in the customary manner in as finely divided a manner as possible through the reaction liquid containing the catalyst, optionally with stirring or shaking. The inert substances which dissolve acetoacetic esters can also be present. The application of an overpressure, e.g. B. how such occurs per se in larger reaction vessels is not excluded. The process can also be carried out in an uninterrupted manner, for example in such a way that the acetoacetic ester is fed from above to a sufficiently high, hydrogen-fed vessel containing the catalyst and optionally filled with distribution bodies, or to several vessels of this type connected in series. The conversion achieved in the process according to the invention is practically quantitative; any side reactions do not occur. EXAMPLE i With shaking, hydrogen is passed into a mixture of 26o g of ethyl acetoacetate and 26 g of Raney nickel skeleton catalyst at a temperature of 28 to 10 ° until the hydrogenation has ended. This runs particularly quickly at 8o to 9o °. The catalyst is separated off from the reaction product and this is then distilled off. The yield was practically quantitative. Instead of ethyl acetoacetate, butyl acetoacetate can be hydrogenated under similar conditions with the same success. The hydrogen uptake is particularly brisk between 70 and 80 °. In this way, ß-oxybutyl butyl ester is obtained with a yield of 0. Example 2 In a closed copper vessel, a mixture of 130 g of acetoacetic ester and 15 g of nickel skeleton catalyst is shaken at 50 ° to 55 ° under a hydrogen pressure of 5 atmospheres for about 20 hours. After separating off the catalyst and distilling at II mm Hg and 73 to 78 °, β-oxybutyric acid ester is obtained in a yield of 98 °.
