Description
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Metall- oder Halbmetallsalzen des Methylphosphonsäuremethylesters aus Methylphosphonsäuredimethylester (DMMP).
- Aus der EP 0 245 207 sind Metallsalze von Alkyl- und funktionellen Alkylphosphonsäurederivaten als Zusätze zu Flammschutzmitteln für Polyurethane bekannt. In dieser Patentschrift sind mehrere Verfahren zur Herstellung der Metallsalze beschrieben, jedoch sind diese Verfahren bei der Herstellung von DMMP-Salzen mit verschiedenen Nachteilen behaftet. Bei den hierbei gebildeten Nebenprodukten handelt es sich entweder um Schadstoffe wie z.B. Methylchlorid, Methylether oder Essigsäuremethylester, um anorganische Salze, die Umweltprobleme verursachen, oder das Verfahren benötigt reines DMMP als Ausgangsmaterial.
- Überraschenderweise wurde gefunden, daß sich Salze aus DMMP in guter Ausbeute und ohne Bildung von schädlichen Nebenprodukten herstellen lassen, wenn man DMMP mit einem Metalloxid oder -hydroxid in fein verteilter Form umsetzt. Die dabei gebildeten Nebenprodukte wie Methanol lassen sich leicht entfernen und eventuell nicht umgesetztes DMMP läßt sich leicht zuruckgewinnen und wiederverwenden. Die Reaktion ist als überraschend anzusehen, da z.B. Aluminiumoxid-trihydrat oft als anorganisches Füllmittel für Flammschutzmittel verwendet und im allgemeinen als chemisch inert angesehen wird.
- Die vorliegende Erfindung stellt somit ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Metall- oder Halbmetallsalzen des Methylphosphonsäuremethylesters zur Verfügung, das darin besteht, daß man Methylphosphonsäuredimethylester unter nichtwäßrigen Bedingungen mit einer fein verteilten Form eines Oxids oder Hydroxids eines oder mehrerer Metalle oder Halbmetalle aus der Gruppe IIA, IIB, IIIA, IVA, IVB, VA, VIB, VIIB oder VIII des Periodensystems der Elemente (Fisher Scientific Company C 1968) bei erhöhter Temperatur reagiert.
- So kann das Metall oder Halbmetall z.B. aus Magnesium, Calcium, Barium, Zink, Bor, Aluminium, Molybdän, Mangan, Silicium, Zinn, Blei, Titan, Antimon, Eisen und Kobalt ausgewählt sein. Vorzugsweise handelt es sich bei dem Metall um Magnesium oder Aluminium. Als Metall- oder Halbmetalloxide und -hydroxide kommen u.a. Aluminiumhydroxid, Aluminiumoxid, Aluminiumoxid-mono- oder -trihydrat, Antimontrioxid, Antimontetroxid, Antimonpentoxid Bariumhydroxid-hexahydrat, Bariumoxid, Bariumperoxid-hexahydrat, Boroxid, Borsäure, Calciumhydroxid, Calciumoxid, Calciumperoxid- hexahydrat, Kobalthydroxid, Kobalt(II)-oxid, Kobalt(III)-oxid- hexahydrat, Eisen(II)-hydroxid, Eisen(II)-oxid, Eisen(III)-oxid, Eisen(III)-oxid-trihydrat, Bleihydroxid, Bleioxid, Bleisuboxid, Bleisesquioxid, Magnesiumhydroxid, Magnesiumoxid, Magnesiumperoxid, Manganhydroxid, Manganoxid, Mangandioxid, Mangantrioxid, Molybdänoxid, Molybdänhydroxid, Siliciumoxid, Siliciumdioxid, Siliciumdioxid-hydrat, Zinn(II)-oxid, Zinn(II)-oxid-monohydrat, Zinn(IV)-oxid, Zinn(IV)-oxid-dihydrat, Titanoxid, Titandioxid, Titansesquioxid, Zinkhydroxid, Zinkoxid und Zinkperoxid in Frage.
- Die durchschnittliche Teilchengröße der fein verteilten Form kann weniger als 2 Mikron, vorzugsweise weniger als 1 Mikron, betragen.
- Die Reaktion kann bei einer Temperatur von 100º bis 200ºC, vorzugsweise von 160º bis 180ºC, erfolgen. Bei der Umsetzung kann überschüssiges DMMP als Reaktionslösungsmittel oder ein geeignetes hochsiedendes inertes Lösungsmittel wie z.B. Xylol, Chlorbenzol, etc. mitverwendet werden, wobei das gebildete Methanol abdestilliert wird. Besonders bevorzugt wird die Reaktion unter Rückfluß mit DMMP als Reaktionslösungsmittel durchgeführt.
- Das Verfahren der Erfindung ist vollkommen problemlos in bezug auf anorganische Nebenprodukte und deren anschließende Entsorgung. Nicht umgesetztes DMMP läßt sich zurückgewinnen und wiederverwenden und das gebildete Methanol läßt sich leicht entfernen. Die gemäß dem Verfahren der Erfindung erhaltenen Produkte sind als Zusätze zu
- Flammschutzmitteln für Polymere in der in EP 0 245 207 beschriebenen Weise geeignet.
- Die Phosphonsäuresalze lassen sich in verschiedenen Polymeren verwenden. Beispiele von Polymeren, die sich flammfest ausrüsten lassen, sind:
- 1. Polyphenylenoxide und -sulfide, sowie Mischungen dieser Polymere mit Polystyrol-pfropf und Copolymeren wie hochschlagfestes Polystyrol, EPDM-Copolymere mit Kautschuken.
- 2. Polyurethane, die sich von Polyethern, Polyestern oder Polybutadien mit endständigen Hydroxylgruppen ableiten, einerseits und aliphatische oder aromatische Polyisocyanate andererseits, einschließlich Polyisocyanurate sowie deren Vorprodukte.
- 3. Polyamide und Copolyamide, die sich von Diaminen und Dicarbonsäuren und/oder Aminocarbonsäuren oder den entsprechenden Lactamen ableiten, wie Polyamid-4, Polyamid-6, Polyamid-6/6, Polyamid-6/10, Polyamid-11, Polyamid-12, Poly-2,4,4- trimethylhexamethylen-terephthalamid oder Poly-m-phenylen- isophthalamid, sowie deren Copolymere mit Polyethern wie z.B. Polyethylenglykol, Polypropylenglykol oder Polytetramethylenglykole.
- 4. Polyester, die sich von Dicarbonsäuren und Dialkoholen und/oder Hydroxycarbonsäuren oder den entsprechenden Lactonen ableiten, wie Polyethylen-terephthalat, Polybutylen-terephthalat, Poly-1,4- dimethylol-cyclohexan-terephthalat und Polyhydroxybenzoate sowie Block-copolyether-ester, die sich von Polyethern mit endständigen Hydroxylgruppen ableiten.
- 5. Ungesättigte Polyesterharze, die sich von Copolyestern gesättigter und ungesättigter Dicarbonsäuren mit mehrwertigen Alkoholen und Vinylverbindungen als Vernetzungsmittel ableiten, sowie deren schwer entflammbare halogenhaltige Modifikationen.
- 6. Polystyrol.
- 7. Pfropfcopolymere von Styrol wie z.B. Styrol auf Polybutadien, Styrol und Acrylnitril auf Polybutadien, Styrol und Alkylacrylate oder -methacrylate auf Polybutadien, Styrol und Acrylnitril auf Ethylen-Propylen-Dien-terpolymeren, Styrol und Acrylnitril auf Polyacrylaten oder Polymethacrylaten, Styrol und Acrylnitril auf Acrylat-Butadien-Copolymeren, sowie deren Mischungen mit statistischen Copolymeren von α-Methylstyrol mit Dienen oder Acrylderivaten, z.B. die als ABS-, MBS-, ASA- oder AES-Copolymere bekannten Copolymermischungen, sowie ABS-Polycarbonatblends.
- 8. Vernetzte Epoxyharze, die sich von Polyepoxiden, z.B. von Bisglycidyl-ethern des Bisphenol A oder von cycloaliphatischen Diepoxiden, ableiten.
- Die Erfindung wird durch die folgenden Beispiele erläutert:
- Zu 1000 Milliliter Methylphosphonsäuredimethylester gibt man 39,0 Teile (0,5 Mol) Aluminiumtrihydroxid unter sehr wirkungsvollem Vermischen und erhitzt auf Rückflußtemperatur (180ºC ± 2ºC). Nach 2-stündigem Erhitzen bildet sich ein dickflüssiger Brei, der mit genügend Methylphosphonsäuredimethylester versetzt wird, um wirkungsvolles Vermischen aufrechtzuerhalten, wonach das gebildete Methanol abdestilliert wird.
- Man erhitzt die Reaktionsmischung weitere 6 Stunden bei der Rückflußtemperatur und kühlt. Man sammelt den erhaltenen Feststoff, wäscht viermal mit jeweils 250 ml Wasser und anschließend zweimal mit jeweils 500 ml Aceton und trocknet bei etwa 150ºC unter verringertem Druck auf Gewichtskonstanz. Man erhält 168,0 Teile Methylphosphonsäuremonomethylester-Aluminiumsalz mit einem Schmelzpunkt von > 250ºC und einer Mikroanalyse von 8,11 % Al und 26,53 % P; berechnet für C&sub6;H&sub1;&sub8;O&sub9;P&sub3;Al: 7,63 % Al, 26,27 % P.
- Gemäß der in Beispiel 1 beschriebenen Arbeitsweise erhitzt man 29,0 Teile (0,5 Mol) fein verteiltes Magnesiumhydroxid und 500 Milliliter Methylphosphonsäuredimethylester 4 Stunden unter Rückfluß. Man sammelt den erhaltenen Feststoff, wäscht mit Aceton und trocknet bei 100ºc unter Vakuum auf Gewichtskonstanz. Man erhält 62,6 Teile Methylphosphonsäuremonomethylester-Magnesiumsalz mit einem Schmelzpunkt von > 230ºC und einer Mikroanalyse von 9,36 % Mg und 23,70 % P; berechnet für C&sub4;H&sub1;&sub2;O&sub6;P&sub2;Mg.H&sub2;O: 9,23 % Mg; 23,85 % P.
- Gemäß der in Beispiel 1 beschriebenen Arbeitsweise erhält man mit 15,6 Teilen (0,2 Mol) Aluminiumtrihydroxid, 11,7 Teilen (0,2 Mol) Magnesiumhydroxid und 500 Millilitern Methylphosphonsäuredimethylester 61,0 Teile eines Metallmischsalzes mit einem Schmelzpunkt von > 200ºC und einer Mikroanalyse von 7,53 % Al, 0,64 % Mg und 24,52 % P.
- Gemäß der in Beispiel 1 beschriebenen Arbeitsweise erhitzt man 25,5 Teile (0,25 Mol) Aluminiumoxid (neutral) und 124 Teile (1,0 Mol) Methylphosphonsäuredimethylester 6 Stunden unter Rückfluß. Man sammelt den erhaltenen Feststoff, wäscht mit Wasser und trocknet auf Gewichtskonstanz. Man erhält 37,8 Teile eines Produkts mit einem Schmelzpunkt von > 230ºC und einer Mikroanalyse von 15,35 % Al, 9,79 % P.
Claims (6)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Metall- oder Halbmetallsalzes des
Methylphosphonsäuremethylesters, wobei man
Methylphosphonsäuredimethylester unter nichtwäßrigen Bedingungen mit
einer fein verteilten Form eines Oxids oder Hydroxids eines oder
mehrerer Metalle oder Halbmetalle aus der Gruppe IIA, IIB, IIIA,
IVA, IVB, VA, VIB, VIIB oder VIII des Periodensystems der Elemente
bei erhöhter Temperatur reagiert.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, worin die Reaktionstemperatur 100ºC
bis 200ºC beträgt.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 2, worin die Reaktionstemperatur 160ºC
bis 180ºC beträgt.
4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, worin die Reaktion mit einem Überschuß
an Methylphosphonsäuredimethylester als Lösungsmittel oder einem
hochsiedenden inerten Lösungsmittel durchgeführt wird.
5. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, worin es sich bei dem Metall oder
Halbmetall um Magnesium, Calcium, Barium, Zink, Bor, Mangan,
Molybdän, Aluminium, Silicium, Zinn, Blei, Titan, Antimon, Eisen
oder Kobalt handelt.
6. Verfahren nach Anspruch 5, worin es sich bei dem Metall oder
Halbmetall um Magnesium oder Aluminium handelt.
