Description

Process for the production of magnesia-cement-bonded furniture coverings It is known that caustic-burned magnesia in combination with chlorine-magnesium lye and any fillers such as paper dust, wood dust, leather dust, wool dust and the like solidifies to form stone-like masses. It is also known that floor coverings are also manufactured under the name of stone wood using the aforementioned substances. However, in order to be sufficiently resistant, such coverings must be applied in a thickness of at least 1ä to 1 5 mm. Less thick floor coverings are not sufficiently resistant and tend to crack. Attempts have also been made repeatedly to produce coverings for tables and chairs (kitchen furniture) from the aforementioned materials, but such coverings have not proven themselves because, given the small thickness of at most z to 3 mm, they crack after a very short time and are not resistant are enough against moisture and acids, especially fruit acids.

A process has now been found by which from magnesia cement masses Coverings for furniture of all kinds, but especially kitchen furniture - (cupboard tops, tables and chairs, etc.). These pads are intended to be a substitute for Be linoleum or oilcloth.

The lining compound according to the invention is a mixture of caustic-burned Magnesia, chloromagnesium lye, softwood flour and a colorless one; oily magnetic esia soap-wax dispersion, which is added to the stone mortar after magnesia, chloromagnesium lye and wood flour have been processed into a pulpy mass.

The dispersion is prepared in the following way: 3okg wax, as Paraffin, stearin, carnauba wax. and the like, are approximately. 7okg of a cheap oil, like footboJe, oil, dissolved warm and mixed into a paste until it cools. 2o kg Soft soap are dissolved in 1201 hot water. Both mixtures are .on the Way together to @eilier homogeneous emulsion, that the paste the in Water dissolved soft soap is added with constant stirring. Then will this emulsion to kg of a 30 ° B6 chlorine magnesium hydroxide solution with stirring added to the emulsion. A water-insoluble one with a high content of oil now arises Magnesia soap-wax dispersion. This dispersion, in appropriate Amounts mixed with the magnesia mortar do not make the covering made from it only resistant to water and acid influences, but it reduces the Shrinkage of the pavement mass by more than 5o%.

Practical tests that have been carried out in the relevant furniture industry for some time have shown that the covering according to the invention can be addressed as a fully-fledged substitute for linoleum and oilcloth. Exemplary embodiment 10 kg of magnesite are processed with 3 kg of wood flour and 10 kg of magnesium chloride solution to form a paste-like mass. About 300 g of the above-described dispersions are mixed into this and processed until the dispersion is evenly mixed with the pulp. This mass is applied in any thickness to the wooden surface to be covered. brought, covered with a rubber sheet and rolled on. After the coverings have been stored and dried in heated rooms for z ¢ to ¢ 8 hours, they are sanded using sanding machines: The mixing ratios can of course also be different, paper dust, straw meal, hay meal and the like can also be used as fillers.
