Process for the production of white lead The present invention relates to
a process for producing white lead by electrolysis of carbonated acid
saturated sodium acetate or sodium chlorate solution using lead electrodes.
It is already known in 'such a method essentially
to work continuously. This older procedure is as long as possible
Strive to continue the electrolysis and achieve this by always having one
a certain amount of the exhausted electrolyte is deducted and a corresponding one
Amount of fresh electrolyte is supplied to the tub. The separating
White lead is not removed from the tub during this process. Only when
has formed a considerable amount of this substance, the electrolysis is interrupted,
the entire electrolyte withdrawn with the precipitate and worked up. At work
after this process occurs through the deposition of lead as a result of lead sponge formation
contamination of the white lead obtained. The current yield is also unsatisfactory.
Verfahren gewonnenen. Das nach einem kontinuierlichen Verfahren gewonnene Bleiweiß
ist demgegenüber weniger basisch und enthält also weniger Pb(OH)2. Das nach dem
neuen Verfahren hergestellte Bleiweiß ist also wegen seiner chemischen Zusammensetzung
hochwertiger.
The surprising finding has now been made that the annoying
Lead sponge formation can absolutely be avoided by increasing the yield,
if the process is terminated after about half of the C03 ions have been consumed,
whereupon the electrolyte is removed from the trays together with the precipitate,
around after the precipitate has been deposited and renewed saturation with carbonic acid
to be returned to the tubs. When working up the electrolyte will be
due to the saturation with carbonic acid, there are low levels in the electrolyte
Quantities of dissolved lead oxyhydrate are precipitated and can then be removed
will. The white lead obtained, the composition of which corresponds exactly to the formula 2 Pb C03,
Pb (0 H) 2 corresponds to, is of very high quality and is similar to that of the Dutch
Procedure won. The white lead obtained in a continuous process
In contrast, it is less basic and therefore contains less Pb (OH) 2. That after
New process produced white lead is because of its chemical composition
higher quality. It is also free of lead sponge traces related to what
the power consumption is lower.
Minuten sirrt etwa 3 g Bleiweiß je Ampere enstanden. For the production of white lead according to the new process, it is possible, for example, to work in cells which are 55 X 55 X 85 cm in size. These cells are treated with an aqueous solution of sodium acetate or chlorate with spec. Weight of about z, o2 and an approximate content of 1.51 carbonic acid per liter of electrolyte filled to the brim. 2z cathode plates of 50 X 50 X 0.9 cm and 2o anode plates of the same size are introduced into the cells. The plates are made of lead and are 2 cm apart. A current of 400Amp., A current density of 0.4Amp. / Dm2 and a voltage of 1.2 to 1.5V are used. After an electrolysis of 40 minutes, about 3 g of white lead per ampere are generated.
(insgesamt also 8 Stunden) durchgeführt.
The technical progress achieved according to the new process compared to
a continuous process results from the following comparative tests
Two lead plates were each 8 hours in a sodium chlorate bath with spec. weight
of about 1.014. In both experiments, a current density of 0.5
Amp./dm2, a voltage of 2 V and an electrode spacing of q. cm when in use
two lead electrodes are used. In a first attempt it was under continuous

Measures were newly added in the already used electrolyte from the bath

from metal sponge. Because of these gradually crumbling parts an impurity
of the white lead obtained by the electrolysis is caused, the method is disadvantageous.
In addition, electricity is consumed for the formation of metal sponge. In a second
The electrolysis was tested in twelve equal periods of 40 minutes each
(a total of 8 hours). At the end of each? Single electrolysis was

and then added new, carbonated electrolyte. The electrolyte
about half was used in the course of each individual partial treatment. One
Lead sponge formation did not occur in this process, so that there was also contamination
of the resulting white lead is not to be feared.
