Fire extinguishing agents It is known to use chlorinated hydrocarbons for fire extinguishing purposes
to use. The previously proposed chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as carbon tetrachloride,
Trichlorethylene, chloroform, hexachloroethane, evaporate easily or sublime
and work by cooling the area of the fire and the flame with incombustible ones
Envelop vapors; or they are substances that have a very high boiling point
and only release their chlorine content in the form of hydrochloric acid at very high temperatures,
such as chloronaphthalene, chlorodiphenyl, etc., and thereby act by making the burning ones
Wrap the body with a non-flammable layer.
stetig entwickelt. It has been found that surprising extinguishing effects are achieved
when using chlorinated hydrocarbons, their chlorine content is at a high level
Boiling point already at moderate heat levels, e.g. B. at about Zoo ', in the form of a powerful
Able to deliver hydrochloric acid stream. The developed hydrochloric acid stream lets through
Mixing carbonates (especially ammonium carbonate) into a carbonic acid stream
convert, which is not explosive, but directly on the scene of the fire
steadily developed.
The production of such an extinguishing agent mixture depends on
that one uses a chlorinated hydrocarbon which, although at moderate heat levels
easily decomposable and stable at normal air temperatures, i.e. hydrochloric acid
also does not split off in traces, which furthermore as such, as well as after separation
hydrochloric acid, has a high boiling point or low vapor tension. One of those
The substance is the liquid to semi-solid, highly chlorinated paraffin.
However, the non-stabilized chlorinated paraffin already splits off spontaneously at room temperature, both in the dry state and in the presence of water, slowly but continuously from hydrochloric acid. A simple neutralization is only effective for a very short time, after a few hours or days the acidity begins again. It has been found, however, that z. B. chlorinated paraffins can be obtained by steaming the crude chlorinated paraffin in the presence of small amounts of basic substances and post-treatment with sulfur, which are permanently stable at normal and slightly elevated temperatures, and only begin to split off hydrochloric acid at significantly elevated temperatures. Especially in the temperature range most favorable for the present purpose, i.e. at the underground temperatures, from about 20o to -22O0 upwards, they then deliver a strong, even stream of hydrochloric acid, which causes the extinguishing effect described in the introduction to occur. Example A paraffin wax chlorination product containing about 40% chlorine (boiling point over 300 ') is dissolved in the same amount of carbon tetrachloride. The chlorinated paraffin must be subjected to an effective stabilization process prior to use. You then add a little more to the solution. Ammonium carbonate is added when the acid that can be split off from the chlorinated paraffin is required for bincl "C". The chlorinated paraffin solution has almost the same specific gravity as the added ammonium carbonate, and it is not difficult to adjust the specific weights of both sides by adjusting the proportions between the lighter chlorinated paraffin and the heavier carbon tetragloride. If a stabilized chlorinated paraffin is used, the mixture can be kept permanently at air temperature. The chlorinated paraffin and the ammonium carbonate do not react with one another. It is only necessary to keep the mixture dry. The mixtures obtained in this way can easily be thrown onto the scene of the fire with suitable extinguishing devices and suffocate the flames in the shortest possible time, on the one hand by soaking and covering the burning material with a non-flammable layer, on the other hand by cooling the fire area as a result of the evaporation of the volatile constituents (carbon tetrachloride), and thirdly, durably ch enveloping the flames in an incombustible vapor and gas cloud. Afterglow is almost completely prevented. Corrosive gases do not occur when extinguishing (hydrochloric acid, chlorine, phosgene). The development of carbonic acid only stops after the temperature of the burning body has fallen below about 200 ° ", so the fire can be considered to have been extinguished.
Instead of being dissolved in a solvent, they can be used in accordance with the process
Mixtures also mixes water or aqueous solutions are emulsified in which
Fall at the point of fire due to the development of carbon dioxide, again immediately
on the burning surface, a firmly adhering foam is created. As an emulsifier
can include the usual saponin preparations are used.
