Production of sulfamide When ammonia acts on sulfur trioxide
According to current knowledge, a mixture of amidosulfonic acid ammonium is formed,
imidodisulfate ammonium and sulfuric acid ammonium. To mitigate the law
energetic reaction has so far been in the presence of more or less
large amounts of 'inert gas worked.
S03 + 2 NH3 r S02 . (NH2)2 + H20
verläuft. Für diesen überraschenden Reaktionsverlauf wurden folgende Vorbedingungen
als notwendig gefunden: i. Inertgase sind bei der Reaktion möglichst auszuschließen.It has been found that the action of ammonia on sulfur trioxide can be directed so that the reaction to a large extent in the sense of the equation S03 + 2 NH3 r S02. (NH2) 2 + H20
runs. The following preconditions were found to be necessary for this surprising course of the reaction: i. Inert gases are to be excluded from the reaction as far as possible.
The ammonia gas must already be at the point of entry of the sulfur trioxide
act in a considerable excess on the sulfur trioxide, and 3. the reaction temperature
should be kept low.
hier etwa i kg eines schmierig feuchten Reaktionsproduktes ab.
2 i, 2 0,'o Sulfamid.
The last requirement can be technically easily achieved in connection with - Condition 2 by cooling the excess ammonia gas leaving the reaction chamber after the sulfamide formed has been deposited and, for example, B. returns to reaction with S03 via a fan. In this way it is made possible that the necessary high excess of ammonia gas is always present for the conversion of sulfur trioxide and that the reaction temperature is kept low. Depending on the perfection of the conditions achieved, imidodisulfate ammonium, amidosulfate ammonium and sulfuric acid ammonium are formed as by-products of the reaction. The desired reaction product, sulfamide, can be extracted from this mixture because of its specific solubility in organic solvents, especially acetone; the extraction residue can be processed in a known manner on sulfamic acid salts or sulfamic acid. Example In a gas flow of about 8 cbm per hour of ammonia, i kg of SO3 is gassed in through a nozzle over the course of 1 hour. The reaction mixture with a temperature of 50 to 80 ° is blown into an externally cooled chamber and separates here about 1 kg of a greasy, moist reaction product. The excess, cooled ammonia gas passes through a filter to complete the separation of the solid constituents, and is then fed again to the reaction with S 03 by a fan, the consumed parts being replaced by slowly flowing pure ammonia gas. The reaction product is removed from the chamber and results in the analysis, for. B. 2.940'o imide nitrogen, 3.50b amide nitrogen and 6.2io'o sulfamide nitrogen, corresponding to a purity of 2 i, 2 0, 'o sulfamide. The sulfamide can be obtained therefrom in pure form by extraction with acetone.
