When electric arc welding larger workpieces, the use of

Einen besonders großen Bedienungsbereich kann man dadurch erzielen,This is achieved according to the invention in that for advancing the electrodes

Fig. Ι and 2 show a semi-automatic carbon arc welding apparatus, which is brought into the correct position only by turning. 3 and 4 show a device using a cross head. Fig. 1 shows the welding apparatus in view. 1 is the welding carriage in which the drive motor for moving the entire welding device forward is located. This motor drives the rollers 2 of the carriage. 3 is a guide roller, 4 is the operating switch for the drive motor. The welding head 6 is connected to the welding carriage by the joint 5. The welding head consists of the. Quill 7, which is used to clamp the welding carbon 8. The quill is designed as a rack and can be moved up and down by turning the hand wheel 9 by means of a gear wheel. The power is supplied from the connection 10 via the blowing coil 11 to the water-cooled current clamp 12. The carbon 8 is lightly pressed against the current clamp 12 by the bracket 13 by the compression spring 14. The cooling water inflow and outflow takes place through pipes welded to the clamp meter. The current clamp is protected against the small metal splashes that occur during welding by a copper plate 14, from which the splashes can easily be removed again. A bracket 15 is arranged on the welding head 6 and is suspended pivotably on the joint 5. The welding head is roughly adjusted in height by means of the connecting member 16. FIG. 2 shows a view of the joint head 5. The lever 17, at the end of which the handwheel 9 is arranged, is used to guide the welding head. The choice of leverage makes it possible to carry out a relatively small lateral movement of the welding head by means of a relatively large lateral movement of the handwheel.

connected via the joint 18 to a cross head 19 designed in the usual way,

by means of the handwheels 22 and 23 is used.
