α ist der rohrförmige,. eigentliche Vorwärmer, welcher mit Rippen versehen wird, um ^dadurch die Heizfläche zu vergröfsern. Derselbe ist an beiden Enden durch Platten b geschlossen, welche am besten viereckig und grofs genug gemacht werden, um die Füfse des Vorwärmers bilden zu können. In diese Platten ist eine Anzahl von Wasserröhren c zur Verbindung zweier Räume eingesetzt, welche durch an den Platten b befestigte gewölbte Deckel d abgeschlossen sind. Der Auspuffdampf wird oben durch die Röhre f in den Vorwärmer α an dessen einem Ende eingeführt und strömt unterhalb einer Scheidewand g der Länge nach zwischen den Wasserröhren dem anderen Ende zu, um von hier durch den oberen Theil des Vorwärmers nach dem Ausströmungsrohr h oder bei Dampfmaschinen mit Condensation nach dem Condensator zu gelangen. Bei gröfseren Vorrichtungen werden mehrere Scheidewände zur besseren Wärmeausnutzung des Abdampfes angeordnet. α is the tubular ,. actual preheater, which is provided with ribs in order to enlarge the heating surface. Durch ein Schwimmerventil j wird der Zulauf des Wassers aus der Röhre i in den Mantel geregelt. Für den Fall, dafs das Schwimmerventil einmal versagen sollte, wird der Mantel k mit einem passenden Ueberlaufsrohr versehen. Durch die Berührung mit der Aufsenseite und den Rippen des Vorwärmers wird das Wasser in dem Mantel angewärmt. Aus dem oberen Theil des Mantels, in welchem sich das wärmste Wasser befindet, wird letzteres durch die Röhre / nach der Speisepumpe geleitet. Diese Pumpe treibt das .Wasser durch die Röhre m in denjenigen zwischen Platte b und Deckel d gelegenen Raum, welcher am weitesten von den Röhren h und f entfernt ist, und aus diesem Raum durch die Röhren c in den am entgegengesetzten Ende befindlichen Raum; hierbei wird das Wasser durch die die Röhren c umspülenden Dämpfe bezw.
