Die Salbe wirkt erweichend und benetzt als Wundsalbe die Wundflächen. Hierdurch wirkt sie wirklich desinfizierend, indem sie nicht wie die fetten Salben sich von der Wundfläche abhebt und die Luft nur teilweise abschließt. Dies ist ein wesentlicher Vorzug gegenüber den fetten Salben, die sich von der nassen Wundfläche leicht ablösen und dadurch die Entstehung von Bakterienbruten eher begünstigen als verhindern.
