Process for the pretreatment of starting materials containing vanadium
It is known to produce vanadium by using raw materials containing anadine, e.g. B.
smelting slag, roasted in a mixture with alkali halogens with access to air
and then leaches the roasted food. However, the application of vanadium falls
very different, and this strongly fluctuating discharge from the slag after
the water or acid leaching process has the economic extraction of vanadium
stood in the way of the hot metal freshening.
The present invention relates to a method of pretreatment
of starting materials containing vanadium, which are produced by oxidizing roasting with alkali halogen compounds
and optionally with oxygen-releasing substances such as nitrates or chlorates,
should be digested in order to increase the amount of vanadium during leaching
to enhance. This procedure consists in. class raw materials, especially slag,
in which the ratio of silica to bases is less than 1, with as much
Silica are mixed so that the ratio of silica to bases is greater
than 1 and that then the free silica is converted into silicates by heating the mixture
is convicted. The digestibility of the vanadium is thereby improved and
the vanadium trioxide that is often present is certainly converted into vanadium pentoxide.
When roasting with alkali halogens, the @ 'anadine pentoxide results in alkali vanadate, which in
Easily soluble in water and acids.

Experiments have shown that the degree of oxidation of the vanadium in the slag and that of the added metal oxides has a great influence on the extraction of vanadium from the slag after the leaching process. For this purpose, three slags of the following combinations were used settlement
Slag z slag v slag
°, o % Fe0 ...... 31.92 28.40 28.29

For these three slags, mixtures in molar ratios of bases to acids of 2: 1, 1.5: 1, 1: 1, 1: 1.5, 1: 2 manufactured. With a ratio of bases to acids of i: i, after converting the required moles of acids into silica, the result was an additive for slag i of 24 ° a, for slag 2 of 20'1, and for slag 3 of 13 % silica, namely in Weight percent. The mixtures were melted in a gas oven, after cooling down to the fineness of analysis, and roasted in the usual way at 00 ° C. for one hour with the addition of 10% common salt and 4 to 5% sodium nitrate. The roast was powdered and boiled for 1/2 hour with water to leach out the soluble vanadium. This resulted in the following values for the vanadium yield in a hundred percent compared to the original amount of vanadium:. Base Acids Vanadium

- 3 .... i: i, 5 77.3
Slag i .... i: 2 75.6

It can be seen from these experiments that the yield is always more productive when the ratio of silica to bases is i: z or higher, ie when there is an excess of acid. If the ratio of bases to acids is higher than i: i, one naturally has to accept a higher consumption of silica: or the larger amount of slag. In the case of raw materials that have a higher ratio of bases to acids than i: i, it is not necessary to add lime in order to bring the ratio to i: i.
