Stoffen. The invention relates to the production of collector plates from lead powder, lead oxides and similar substances.
It is known to manufacture collector plates by kneading lead powder a paste is made with a solution that contains persulfuric acid or persulfate, and this in The usual way is filled into grids and the panels obtained are formed. Will here If the amount of per compound used is small, only a part of the metallic compound will be Lead powder converted into lead monoxide. On the other hand, the amount of per-compound applied will be If the size is plentiful, the oxidation proceeds so quickly during kneading that the formation of larger lumps takes place which are unsuitable for filling the grid. In addition, the filling paste expands as a result of the rapid oxidation of the metallic lead and evaporation of water. Such pastes tend to stick off the surface of the To solve the grid.
According to the present invention, collector plates (anodes) are produced in that suitable lead-containing raw materials, ζ. Β. Lead oxides, such as lead suboxide, black lead, red lead or metallic lead powder or mixtures of two, suitably more than two of these Substances in a known manner, for. B. kneaded with dilute sulfuric acid or with water, the paste obtained is filled into a grid and then in the wet or dry state of action is subjected to a solution of persulfuric acid or persulfate. The treatment with the solution containing the per compound can or also before forming the plates take place in the course of the formation process. You can z. B. proceed in such a way that the panels obtained by filling the pastes in the grid under the action of the per compound containing solution, e.g. B. by immersing in the same, exposing or such, that one already more or less solidified plates of the treatment with persulfuric acid solution or subjects to persulfate solution.
Lead suboxide powder has proven to be particularly suitable for carrying out the process, which can be obtained in a known manner by placing pieces of lead in a rotating drum while at the same time Injection of air treated or lead monoxide obtained from such lead suboxide. Mixtures can be used with advantage, the lead suboxide, lead monoxide formed from it and possibly also contain metallic lead dust.
The invention allows the production of hard, particularly useful as anodes, very porous collector plates, the high electrical capacity and at the same time good durability own. A particular advantage of the process is that the.
Formieren erforderliche Zeit erheblich, z. Forming required time considerably, e.g. B. to about 1 Z 4 of the otherwise required time can be reduced.
It is already known to use lead oxides, such as red lead, or mixtures that are mainly z. B. 8o to 88% consist of red lead, * also contain lead monoxide and small amounts of insoluble substances such as silica, moisten with dilute sulfuric acid, the ίο paste in the usual way auf'Gitter o Dry with commercially available concentrated sulfuric acid e.g. B. to moisten by brushing. The surface of the plates should be hardened by the action of the concentrated sulfuric acid and the plates should be compacted into firm cakes. And the treated with concentrated sulfuric acid plates to allow a shortening of the forming time to 3/4, a maximum of x / 2 of the time otherwise required.
From the known use of concentrated sulfuric acid prior to formation The collector plates could not be inferred by handling the plates with supersulfuric acid or persulfate solutions within the meaning of the present invention, particular advantages can achieve.
From the use of concentrated sulfuric acid in the known process it was to be concluded that there certain amounts of the lead oxide present should be converted into lead sulfate. On the other hand, an oxidizing effect was to be expected primarily from the per compounds to be used according to the present invention. The known method is primarily intended to compact the plates. The present invention results in hard but very porous panels. While the known method an abbreviation of the forming time to 3/4, more than half the time otherwise required permits, the formation period of the time otherwise required to be reduced in practicing the present invention to about 1 Z. 4
Paste in üblicher Weise in ■ Gitter gefüllt. Formieren in gebrauchsfähige Anoden übergeführt.I. Lead pieces are placed in a rotating drum, into which an oxidation medium (air) is introduced in such a way that under the influence of heat a superficial oxidation of the lead pieces takes place with the formation of lead suboxide. The lead suboxide is rubbed off by the rotation of the drum; While the lead suboxide is suspended in a smoke-like manner in the heated drum, it is oxidized and the greater part of it is converted into lead monoxide. The light, dusty powder produced in this way, which z. B. has a specific gravity of about 1.5, is kneaded with dilute sulfuric acid with a specific gravity of 1.05 or with water and the resulting. Paste filled in the usual ■ grid. Then the plate is about 2 / dipped into a solution of o ° persulfuric acid. . The surface of the paste then changes its color noticeably in about half an hour. After the plates have remained in the solution for about three hours, they are removed. After drying or any other post-treatment, the panels are immersed in dilute sulfuric acid and then subjected to the usual. Forming converted into usable anodes.
A powder, which consists mainly of mechanically pulverized lead suboxide or lead, is kneaded with dilute sulfuric acid and the paste is poured into grids. After drying, the plate of the formation is subjected, before the completion of forming, the plate is taken out, immersed in a 2 ° Z o solution of ammonium persulfate, taken out after about 3 hours from the persulfate solution and continue the formation of up to the completion of the anode.
