Bei dem Meßinstrument gemäß dem erwähnten Hauptpatent wird ein Shunt verwendet, an dessen Enden ein Teil des Lade- bzw. Entladestromes der Batterie über das Meßinstrument und einen Widerstand abgezweigt wird.
