Description

Method of making ceramic articles Attempts have been made been to introduce beryllium compounds into porcelains to improve their properties to improve because of the relatively small expansion coefficient of certain beryllium silicates was known and one by such an addition a considerable improvement in Resistance to temperature changes of the ceramic masses hoped for. One received thereby but ceramic bodies that are not much different from good porcelain bodies distinguished without the addition of beryllium.

Surprisingly, it has now been shown that ceramic materials can be used of excellent properties if one obtains mass offsets, which beryllium silicates contains, keeps practically free of quartz and feldspar. You bet for this purpose the mass displacement from natural or artificial beryllium silicates it in the form of simple beryllium silicates or z. B. in the form of beryllium aluminosilicates and clays, kaolins or the like, together. The relatively minor impurities on quartz and feldspar; which the additives necessary for processing to the beryllium silicates do not play a role. The result is temperature change-resistant, dense, highly tensile and impact-resistant ceramic objects with excellent electrical properties, as it has never before been achieved with the addition of beryllium silicates to porcelain masses became.

Sometimes it is useful to facilitate the ceramic fire add flux to the beryllium-containing, quartz- and alkali-free backfill. All known alkali-free fluxes, for example alkaline earth compounds, are suitable for this purpose as well as heavy metal oxides; the use of magnesium silicates is excluded, as their use in a mixture with clay or the like and refractory materials of an older patent.
