Description
Safety fuse Addendum to patent 576 637 In the main patent 576637 a safety fuse is placed under protection, in which dyes are applied to the fuse wire. These dyes evaporate when the fuse wire burns through and are deposited on the completely or partially transparent housing. The invention of the main patent consists in applying a chemical compound to the fusible wire as a vaporizing substance, the melting point of which corresponds to the melting temperature of the fusible wire to be used and whose sublimate is colored as intensely as possible. When using such fuses, it has been shown that, in the event of brief overloads, the dye evaporates and thus the fuse is marked as defective, while the fuse wire has not yet melted in reality. It has therefore been found to be expedient to use fusible wires whose melting point is matched to the evaporation point of the dye, especially since the choice of dyes that can be used is very limited. Copper-Süber alloys, which, depending on their composition, have a melting point of about 79o to 96t ° C, have proven to be particularly advantageous. According to the invention, alloys are used for fusible wires, the melting point of which is in the specified range, z. B. of about 6% copper and 94% silver. Or about 65% copper and .about 35% silver. Lead iodide, which has a boiling point of about 861 to 954 ° C, can be used as the dye in such fusible wires.
