Process for the preparation of water-soluble leuco esters of vat dyes
It has been found that leuco derivatives of vat dyes, for example such
of the indigo, anthraquinone or related series, when treated with m-benzoic acid sulfohalides,
like * Benzoic acid sulfochloride in the presence of tertiary organic bases, in
transferring new products, the probably O-carboxylic acid esters of the leuco compounds
with free sulfonic acid residues.
The esters obtainable in this way are soluble in water and in substance as well
in neutral solutions of great durability. In contrast to the sulfuric acid esters
They can be removed from leuco compounds - not through acids, but also through alkalis
split fairly easily, in the latter case directly usable for dyeing purposes
Vats are created. The new compounds themselves have dye character and are
especially because of the properties described above for dyeing and printing
of value.
In »The Illustrated Official Journal«, Abridgements i, August 1928,
Seite 3489,
Beispiel i Man trägt
abscheidet.
Beispiel z i Gewichtsteil N-Dihydro- i # z-2' # i'-anthrachinonazin wird in einer
Mischung von 2o Volumteilen etwa 2o °/aigen Alkohols. q. Volumteilen 30 0%iger Natronlauge-und
i Gewichtsteil Natriumhydrosulfit auf etwa 7o0 erwärmt.
Beispiel 3 Eine analog Beispiel i hergestellte
In "The Illustrated Official Journal", Abridgements i, August 1928, page 3489, left column, products are described which are obtained by reacting leuco derivatives of vat dyes with organic acids with reactive halogen, including products from leuco derivatives of vat dyes with chlorobenzylsulfonic acid. These products are ethers rather than esters like the products of the present invention. Apart from the fact that the products in question mostly do not. are water-soluble, the new products therefore also have the advantage over the water-soluble products of the publication mentioned that they are considerably easier to split. Due to this fact, the new products are of considerably greater value to the dyeing and printing industry than the known ones. EXAMPLE 1 2 parts by weight of benzoic acid sulfochloride are introduced into 6 parts by weight of dry pyridine and the mixture is heated to from 0 to 70 °, complete dissolution occurring, from which a colorless compound of pyridine with the acid chloride separates out on cooling. Now 1 part by weight of dry leukothioindigo (obtained by reducing thioindigo by using an ammoniacal hydrosulfite solution in the presence of some alcohol) is added and the mixture is gradually heated to about 70 °. Here a solution arises first. which solidifies on cooling to a paste of colorless pyridine-containing crystals of the ester. The ester dissolves colorlessly in water and can be recrystallized from it for purification. If its aqueous alkaline solution is heated, the yellow vat of thioindigo is formed with saponification. Example zi part by weight of N-dihydro- i # z-2 '# i'-anthraquinone azine is about 20% alcohol in a mixture of 20 parts by volume. q. Parts by volume of 30% strength sodium hydroxide solution and 1 part by weight of sodium hydrosulfite are heated to about 70. After a temporary vat formation, purple-blue needles of the leuco compound are deposited, which are washed on the suction filter with hot, dilute hydrochloric acid and dried in the absence of air. 3 parts by weight of this leuco compound are poured into a cooled mixture of q as shown in Example i. Parts by weight of benzoic acid-m-sulfochloride and 4.o parts by volume of pyridine are added and the reaction mixture is gradually heated to 70 to 8o0 until a sample is completely soluble in warm water with a red-violet color. When cooling down, the ester separates out. Example 3 A mixture produced analogously to Example i. of 30 parts by weight of the leuco compound of the dye according to the examples of patent 417 068 with 35 parts by weight of benzoic acid sulfochloride and igo parts by volume of pyridine were heated to 60 ° to 70 ° with frequent stirring. The possibly filtered brown-red solution can be diluted with water and mixed with common salt to separate the ester. The leuco ester thus obtained dissolves in water with a brownish-red color. If this solution is heated with alkali in the absence of air, the blue-colored vat of the starting dye is formed with saponification.
