Es hat sich gezeigt, daß dieser Nachteil dadurch vermieden werden kann, daß man beim vorübergehenden Außerbetriebsetzen des Ofens das im Schmelzkanal befindliche Metall durch künstliche Kühlung zuerst abkühlt, wobei das im Herd befindliche Metall zweckmäßig gleichzeitig warm gehalten wird, z. B. durch aufgelegte Holzkohle.
