Description
Method of making fertilizers The present invention relates to a further development of the method of the patent 573 a84, according to which Rock phosphate dissolved in medium concentration nitric acid (45 to 65 ° 1a) and converted into a solution containing calcium nitrate and free phosphoric acid from which calcium nitrate is subsequently crystallized by cooling.
Most of the time, when performing this procedure, a very troublesome one occurs Foam on various contaminants contained in rock phosphate is due, which react with the acid with evolution of gas. Of such The main impurities is the calcium carbonate, which is mostly in a Amount of 5 to ro% is contained in the rock phosphate. Calcium fluoride can also be considered, which slowly evolves hydrogen fluoride, which latter forms foam can continue to implement. Other contaminants can generate hydrogen sulfide cause etc.
The impurities causing the development of gas are sufficient do not produce a permanent foam. Rather, such a thing occurs Foam only when there are other organic or organic contaminants at the same time inorganic nature are present in finely divided form, those of the solution are colloidal Communicate properties, as is the case with rock phosphate.
According to the invention, this foaming occurs when the rock phosphate is dissolved avoided by the process of the main patent in a very simple manner that the acid is added to the rock phosphate in two or more stages, namely so that the first treatment is accomplished with a very significant deficiency in acid so that no solution, but only a plastic or viscous mass is created. This portion or portions of the acid added first react mainly with the calcium carbonate or other gas-generating impurities in the rock phosphate. The action is favored if the nitric acid is finely divided in this stage atomized form is added. The rock phosphate is during this process in Movement kept, expediently by stirring or by moving forward through a suitable apparatus. In this way the acid added as rain or mist becomes always moisten new particles of the rock phosphate and the gas-generating impurities, such as B. the calcium carbonate attack the entire mass under treatment and decompose. The amount of acid added first should be at least sufficient; to degrade all gas generating contaminants. Possibly a certain excess of nitric acid can also be used. Also, in the acid treatment, initially only a plague or viscous mass should be used develop. It is precisely the cowardly condition of the mixture that prevents it from developing Forms carbon dioxide foam. By appropriately stirring or kneading the mass, the evolved gas to escape.
It has been found that the one for stirring or processing the force required for the mass is only very slight.
After the gas-generating impurities in this way wholly or are largely rendered harmless, the rest of the acid is added. This is best done gradually while stirring. The whole treatment of the rock phosphate with acid is expedient in a suitable continuously operating apparatus carried out. The first division of the same can expediently consist of an elongated one closed mixing container or from one with devices for moving. of the phosphate material provided disc exist, whereby the first amounts of acid burst onto the property will. The main degassing of the mass takes place in this part of the apparatus instead of. Devices for heating or cooling the mixture can be provided be. From this part of the apparatus, the degassed mass is expediently a grater of mixing tanks or screw conveyors or reaction vessels equipped with agitators fed. The bulk of the Acid added, expediently in such a way that a suitable one in each department Partial amount of the acid is added, so that the finished reaction product or the The finished solution can be taken directly from the last department.
At the end. the apparatus is expediently a large capacity container provided in which the reaction takes place and from which the reaction product is fed to a storage container. For carrying out the described method of operation can within the scope of the invention a number of continuously operating Find devices use.
The execution of the method is illustrated by the following example.
The exposure to the originally specified amount of acid can be appropriate continued with stirring until the reaction product becomes a solid crumbly Forms mass which, if necessary after some storage and further comminution, z. B. in a centrifugal mill, treated with the remaining bulk of the acid will.
Instead of using nitric acid in the first stage of treatment, In order to prepare a plastic mass from rock phosphate, one can use one from an earlier one Solution of rock phosphate in nitric acid derived from the work process for this purpose use. You can also use the process of the main patent after crystallization Mother liquor obtained from calcium nitrate is very useful for making the rock phosphate into a paste use.
The following example explains this latter way of working: 100 kg Rock phosphate are mixed with 75 kg of mother liquor. Under exhaust fumes it becomes mushy Obtained mass that solidifies very easily and by stirring at the same time goes into a crumbly state. After - standing for some time under further exhaust fumes the crumbly mass with the calculated amount of 5o% nitric acid is 2o6.6 kg in addition to an excess of 20. q. kg (about 10%) treated, with the rock phosphate quickly dissolves without significant foam formation.
Even with previous methods of treating rock phosphate with nitric acid, be it for the direct production of solid digestion products, so-called Nitrophosphates, be it for the preparation of digestion solutions, it is known that Add acid gradually, i.e. in several partial amounts. In to the named process, the addition of the acid in partial amounts has only one purpose more uniform effect on the rock phosphate or less corrosion of the Apparatus can be achieved by not having too much free at any time Nitric acid is present in the reaction vessels.
The present one differs from these earlier modes of operation Process in that the first stage of the acid treatment has the sole purpose of to decompose the gas-evolving impurities of the rock phosphate and first to obtain a plastic or viscous digestion material from which the gas inclusions can be easily removed without creating foam.
