Steuerruder mit feststehendem Ruderstevenstamm Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 26. März 1929 ab Steering rudder with fixed rudder stem. Patented in the German Empire on March 26, 1929
There are. Known rudder shapes whose cross-section is in unity with the rudder stem of a symmetrical contour curve is enclosed, with the greatest width of the rudder cross-section the greatest width of the stern cross-section protrudes. The articulation lies at a distance in front of the greatest width of the rudder cross-section.
Von diesen bekannten Ruderformen unterscheidet sich der Erfindungsgegenstand durch eine nach bestimmten Zweckgedanken gewählte besondere Formgebung, dahingehend, daß die Gelenkverbindung zwischen Ruderstevenstamm und Ruder in einem annäherndThe subject matter of the invention differs from these known rudder forms a special shape chosen according to a specific purpose, to the effect that that the articulation between the rudder stem and rudder in an approximate
Dabei bilden Ruder und Stevenstamm einen Gesamtquerschnittsumriß von wasserschnittiger, symmetrischer Form.ig the largest rudder thickness corresponding distance in front of the thickest point of the rudder cross-section and the greatest width of the bow cross-section is about half as large as that largest width of the rudder cross-section, but greater than the = length of the stern cross-section. The rudder and stem form an overall cross-sectional outline of water-cutting, symmetrical shape.
The advantages of this rudder over known similar forms will be explained below with reference to the drawing which shows the rudder in cross section. As a result of the shape in the horizontal section 4 of the rudder, which increases considerably from the point of articulation C, the front ones are located. Parts g of the rudder side surfaces under increased flow pressure. This flow pressure, which develops automatically at the front end of the rudder while driving and which is balanced on the port and starboard sides as long as the rudder is amidships, mainly contributes to a significant increase in the rudder pressure effect with smaller rudder deflections to one side or the other. Relatively large rudder effects are thus achieved by jointly utilizing the automatically developing inflow pressure with the low expenditure of force required by smaller rudder extensions. The effort required to lay the oar is also reduced by the fact that the point of passage of the resultant of the oar pressure forces is moved closer to the oar pivot point than in oars of known similar forms due to the shape relationships given by the special features of the present invention.
With regard to the effects described above, the best results are obtained, if the width of the stern cross-section is about half as large as the greatest width of the Rudder cross-section.

The resulting advantages, which manifest themselves mainly as an additional pressure effect and a more favorable position of the pressure application point with smaller rudder extensions, are achieved by the rudder of the present invention, further advantages that occur with larger rudder extensions due to the shape properties that result from the stevedore nose positioned in front of the rudder body. In particular, these advantages have an effect compared to the known oars, the pivot point of which is also at a certain distance in front of the thickest point of the oar cross-section, but which do not have a fixed rudder stem. The stem in front of the rudder body, which should be as short as possible because of the inclined flow of the rudder when the ship is turning, forms a nose curved into the flow with every rudder angle, which is a favorable precondition for the development of highly effective pressure and negative pressure conditions as well as a guarantee that the flow will remain snuggled to the negative pressure side of the rudder for as long as possible. With larger rudder deflections, the curve t for the current transfer to the negative pressure side is given such a moderate curvature that the flow around the head of the overall profile cannot accelerate excessively. However, this is easily the case with oars of the type indicated above that do not have a fixed nose. It is known that too rapid a flow around the head of a profile standing obliquely to the flow has the consequence that the flow on the negative pressure side breaks off prematurely, whereby the rudder effect is limited and the travel resistance is increased.
