Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung zum Spannen und Verschließen von Metallbändern zum Umreifen, z. B. von Kisten oder Ballen, unter Verwendung einer die Bandeisenenden umschließenden Hülse. Bei den bekannten Einrichtungen wird zunächst das Band um die Kiste gespannt, darauf erfolgt das Abtrennen und erst nach dem Abtrennen das Bilden des Verschlusses durch Einprägen einer Rippe in die Verschlußhülse. Bei anderen bekannten Vorrichtungen erfolgt das Abtrennen des Bandendes während der Verschlußbildung. Bei allen bekannten Einrichtungen wird während des Straffspannens der Bänder die Hülse durch ein starres Widerlager festgehalten.
