Description

Process for the extraction of metals directly from bituminous ores by heating in the absence of air. The main patent 551 92 ¢ deals with a process to extract metals directly from ores of a bituminous nature. The ore is thereby subjected to a kind of smoldering process, d. H. to temperatures above 6oo ° C below Exclusion of air heated, causing the metal compounds to break down and the metals exposed so that they can be processed as such. It has now been shown that this process is accelerated and facilitated if the heating is in the absence of air takes place in the presence of water vapor, especially when the ore is not moist in the pit can be processed. Although it is known to be the immediate bituminous ores Exposing to the action of a flame under water vapor, however, does not result in any Metals, but metal oxides. It is also known in the recovery of the bitumen from copper slate etc. by alternately blowing air and water vapor to decompose the last part of the bitumen and the gas that is formed in part to use for heating the required shaft furnace. In this procedure there is a complete combustion of the bitumen, but no exposure of solid metals. In contrast, the present invention from bituminous ores by heating in the absence of air in the presence of water vapor Metals mined. It is sufficient if small amounts of water vapor are supplied. For example, during the smoldering treatment of Mansfeld copper slate, for example 10 parts by weight of water vapor, based on the amount of ore added, to about 20% 25o ° overheated and during the smoldering period of q. Lis 6 hours in the smoldering retort initiated. The carbonized material removed from the retort after cooling showed consistently thread-like and granular copper and other metal efflorescence, which easy to prepare. The method also has the advantage that the gas discharge is enlarged. Compared to gas extraction without the addition of water vapor about i o o / 0 more gases of equivalent calorific value can be obtained.
