Process for separating from acetic anhydride and dilute acetic acid
existing mixtures The separation of acetic anhydride and acetic acid is known
considerably more difficult if water is present in the mixture at the same time, i.e. diluted
Acetic acid is present in addition to the anhydride. The main reason for this is that
the acetic anhydride tends to combine with the water present,
and at elevated temperatures, as z. B. for fractional distillation
of the mixture are required, actually combined with it almost instantaneously.
It has now been found that this difficulty can be overcome in a simple manner
Master becomes when one does not or does not use the water present in the mixture with it
only incompletely miscible organic solvents distilled off under reduced pressure.
If you choose as auxiliary liquids such low boiling point, such. B. benzene,
Carbon tetrachloride, etc., a slight vacuum is generally sufficient,
a significant conversion of acetic anhydride with the water present
To prevent acetic acid.
Hilfsflüssigkeiten wurden für die Trennung von Essigsäureanhydrid,
Essigsäure und Wasser schon herangezogen (vgl. Patentschrift 4.08 7 t5).
Auxiliary liquids were used for the separation of acetic anhydride,
Acetic acid and water have already been used (see patent specification 4.08 7 t5). :: oh that
The process described there, however, does not use the water together with the auxiliary liquid
distilled off; the latter only serves to precipitate the water. Such
or a similar procedure can be used with advantage to the method described here
Let it go ahead if you have mixtures with a higher water content, i.e. with stronger
dilute acetic acid is present. A substitute for the present procedure
However, the known method cannot offer, because even after the failure of the
Water by means of an auxiliary liquid and after drying the remaining
Liquid mixture, as was determined by comparative tests, still
a not insignificant amount of water remains in the mixture, which then
at the high temperatures of a subsequent ordinary fractional distillation
converts a significant part of the anhydride into acetic acid.
Beispiele @r.
Examples @r. A mixture of 86o parts by weight of acetic anhydride,

besteht.2. The benzene is distilled off at a pressure of about 40 mm of mercury from a mixture of 10 8 parts of acetic anhydride, 113 parts of acetic acid and 10 parts of water, to which 170 parts of benzene are added. Most of the water and a small part of the acetic acid go over with the benzene. The acetic acid-containing benzene separated from the aqueous layer containing some acetic acid is returned to the distillation residue; the removal of the benzene by distillation is repeated as before. After the benzene has been distilled off a third time, optionally with the addition of a small amount of fresh benzene, a residue is obtained which consists of 96 parts of acetic anhydride and 95 parts of acetic acid.
